I recently watched a YouTube where an angler (tounge in cheek I guess) mentioned it wasn't a proper Simmo if it didn't have a lump. Is this a genetic defect to the strain?

In the early days They all had broken ribs or something wrong with them
Some of the newer ones are pretty fish apparently

Wasn't it something to do with the swim bladder

The short body length of some of the original fishers pond/Simmo fish caused the swim bladder to become squashed and twist sideways so pushing out a side rib.

The new Simmo fish are belters.

If it was Greg Ellis you're talking about, the kid needs to get over himself. His piece in Carpworld and his lack of respect for other anglers made me cringe. He catches a lot of fish, no doubt he's good at it, but in the same way Shelley was. In my opinion it's a shame that he will be the face on the last ever edition of a magazine that used to stand for a lot more than filling as lake in with cell and f*** everyone else.

Yes it was a popped rib they all suffered with, looked quite severe at times.
