Nice rods,are they the ones,formerly on 'vintage carp tackle site'?
Very good website that is...if I were you,I'd be looking at some Mitchell series five,egg shapers with the boomarang check,or anti reverse...they have the 300 number configured like this 3.0.0 and have the handle sprung loaded..
Or,a lovely pair of 410s,maybe some 300 pros,unsigned versions,so much choice...

I have an old Vortex spinning rod that I bought in the ealry 90's so I could pretend to be Chris Yates.

Mine are bought 2. hand here in germany and prof. refurbished.Was told better than new....
Thought about some mitchell or abu reels but never had any.
So open for your advice.

My best advice ,mate is to go old skool,Mitchell 300,or variants of those..
ie...Mitchell 3.0.0 ,300,300a,400,410,300 pro,810 and 900 sizes...stay away from 440,440a and 330 ottomatics ,this is because of the automatic bail arm,most used for smaller species and match fishing back in the day...
ebay is your best bet.......have you ever thought of a vintage DAM quick reel ,similar to a Mitchell 300..?
Mitchell spares are easily obtained,and the reel can be maintained easily too....
a tip from a Mitchell owner,if you get a retro reel ,put a small piece of black insulation tape of the reel foot,this will stop paint removal,and help to prevent damage from sliding reel fittings on the handle of the rod...

I think you may be referring to the Intrepid Elite. As I remember the Black Prince it was a cheap entry level reel with a tiny spool and a bailarm made from bent wire. First reel I ever owned over 50 years ago. The Elite was a reel more comparable to the 300 and Cardinal. Could be my ancient brain melting of course

I had an intrepid black prince back in '67 wouldn't want to use one today though. It's called progress for a reason.
