Hi all this is my 1st time and 1st thread so go easy. I've got a waverunner atom that's on lead acid battery, can anyone help me with what parts list I'd need to convert to lipo. I'm no electrician so please reply in easy to read language.😳

I'd check with WR first fella, Litjium are so much lighter than lead acid the boat will sit higher in the water and
May upset the balance, height of the props etc
Lithium also rest at a higher voltage than lead acid so may ‘confuse' componentry or worse cause problems.

I would also check if there is any means of monitoring the charge level.
My cordless drill just stops with very little warning. Not good if your boat is halfway across the lake

Sorry Whats the WR. With the boat sitting higher I could counterbalance this somehow. The boat also has the less on the back displaying battery life at the minute

Your present battery life monitor would be designed for the original lead acid unit so I doubt if it would give any accurate info with a lithium one. Perhaps you would be able to change that as well but would it all be worth it at the end of the day?
To explain further, a lithium battery holds a fairly constant voltage as it's discharging for say 95 % of its capacity then quickly drops to nothing.

I asked a similar question to bait boat solutions for my viper icon to see if it would improve the boats speed and running time, I was told the battery conversion would not improve either and it would be an expsensive strip out and was told to sell the icon and by a new boat.

YOu can buy a simple little battery tester for a lipo they cost peanuts smaller than a matchbox and takes about 3 seconds to test your battery if you want to keep an eye on it .Waverunners are already pretty good on batterylife so if upgrading to a lipo you wouldnt expect it to run out on a fishing trip

Spot on info, I have the GT Power capacity controller it cost me less than a tenner. I check all my lipos with it, I rely on it rather than the display on my RT4 just plug the balance lead in and it gives a % of what life is left, invaluable bit of kit.

electric is electric, a 12v lead acid battery is not 12v when fully charged its about 13v . and fails running about 11v
its doesn't matter in the slightest if its lipo or li ion which usually charge up to 12.6v. the difference is lead acid is easier to charge and cheaper.
The Amperage of a battery is the running time (time battery will hold a charge whilst being run) so the higher Amps the longer you can use without changing battery's.
the reason`s behind the use of lipo`s and li ion is 3 fold , current (amps) size, and weight.
a 10ah/12ah lead acid weighs in near 1kg (I do not know of bigger amperage lead acid that will actually fit in a baitboat) like motor bike batterys /car etc.
where as a 10ah li ion made from 6 say liitokalo 26650 cells will weigh in around half this weight, which wont make the boat run faster as such , but it will run longer specially if you have a twin battery boat. as the motors are pulling less weight around the lake.
Ive seen a microcat with battery packs made up of 12 of those cells making a 6v 30ah pack which last 24+hrs running time, so never needed bankside charging for a weeks fishing.
but you need a special charger to balance charge these, and more attention specially with lipo`s, many a fire has started by mistreating them, as with my original statement electric is electric = energy, the amount of energy you can put into a battery the same size as a 12v lead acid battery has tripled, meaning a 30ah battery that's 54mm W 26mm H and 170mm L has more energy packed into than TNT and that's why most countrys don't allow them on planes anymore and the royal mail refuse to deliver.
