Looking at purchasing new reels and wanting peoples views on best currently in production and available reels. Need to be able to cast 100yds plus on occasions. Going on 3.5lb infinity rods. Normally a shimano user but after reading the recent thread on slow oscillation thinking daiwa may now be the way to go ?
Daiwa ISO original. Not sure if they're still in production but still available new.
Great casting reels and rugged enough to deal with all sorts.
Time tested.
The new black version may well be as good or better but never used one personally and not been around long.

Original ISO is awesome but look at the newer version....utter perfection!
Really depends on the waters you fish...for the vast majority of waters the Castizm will be just as good.

Build quality wise I don't believe any are as good as what you have now, if I were looking for high end reels it would be a toss up between the new iso's or basia sld. On the plus side there's some good reels out now for less than a hundred quid a reel like the emcast 25A's I have on my scopes at £60 each and I would happily put them on my basia x45's.

Other than Infinities I can't think of another reel that's stood the test of time but the Tourney.
I think technically there are better reels about now, will they do the job any better...that's debatable, will they still be available in 20 years, not a chance.

A good example of what i am saying about good reels being available for a good price. The castizm feels better in hand than the emcast 25a but is barely noticeable on the rod in use and the non quick drag for me is better and I sold two of my four castizm's and bought four emcasts and still had money left.

I've always used Shimano as for me they always work and last years and years. Still using my old Ultegras and I even used the spare spools for about 3 years of beach fishing!
Not sure what the newer Ultegras are like but if I needed new reels they would always be Shimano. Hope this kinda helps

I'm the same since I switched over from Abu Cardinals.
My Shimano's have been used and abused. In 2004/5 I bought a set of Aerlex 8000's, for spodding, marker rod and fishing with. Other than the ones I sold to a mate, I still own the 2 on my marker and spod rods. They have been thoroughly tested, even being used at times for Bass fishing on the beach as well as spod and marker.
From 4000 Gte Baitrunners, 6010's, The Aerlex's, DL10000's which I still use for pike and carp fishing on smaller waters, to the Beastmaster 7000 XTA's I currently use. Not being funny, as nice as it would be, I don't find the need to spend silly big money on my reels. I don't necessarily want or need top range priced reels.
I can't imagine me using any other manufacturer than Shimano for fixed spool reels.

Breaking the current trend for daiwa, I'm a shimano fan.. I have had too many daiwa reels collapse internally for my liking, back in my match fishing days I had two top flight daiwas turn into coffee grinders, recently had the same with an emblem spod, never had any issues with my shimmys! Using technium xsbs now as my main reels and aerlex's for spod and marker, wouldn't replace them with anything.

Interesting there are 3 recomendations for Tourneys. They must be the oldest design reel still in production. Are you guys using older reels or are they the same build quality now as when originally launched ? Is the black version same quality ?
