I'm after some new polaroids any advice what.you all got and why?

really depends on your budget, you can get a pair for £20 and up.
Based on various advice I got some Costa 580G and absolutely love them, pun intended but it opened my eyes to what you can see underwater when you have a good pair of polaroids and the right lenses for the right conditions.

I thought that when I first had mine, don't anymore!!
Frame has broken twice, the plastic frame is garbage!
Had my Optics 30 years and except for a few scratches they are as good as new.
I would love to get a good pair of glasses but I aren't paying £100+ for any.

you do right a £10 pair of polaroids does the same job as a £200 pair but plaecebo takes over when people have spent lots of money.Polarization works by cutting out all the reflected light so the only other thing that helps vision in water will be any other light getting through ie gaps around the frame and face.What you are getting for more money is looks and comfort i work in the industry have a pair of mauri jims but they were free would never have bought them and they are so light and well fitting i dont know i have them on plus they replace them with no quibbles if you break them which i have done.Are they robust no far from it but if you do not care what your glasses look like and dont mind feeling them on your face dont do expensive

Glasses are much of a must. I own costas and yes they are better than the rest. Have compared with friends who have fortis, Fox glasses and various other brands. However are they£100 plus better I'd say no, get them if you want them but a cheap pair still does the same job nearly as well.

I'm going to disagree, I have tried cheap glasses and found them a waste of money, the optics are not as good or clear. Back to back a cheap pair against a set of polarised Oakley and the clarity of the Oakley lens was obvious as was the polarisation effect cutting out glare.
My mate replaced his lenses in his oakley with some 3rd party lenses as they were far cheaper than the original items and you can tell straight away they are not as good as originals.
Horses for courses, if people are happy with cheaper ones and don't see a difference then that is their opinion and they are entitled to it, but you will also find loads that say get the better brands as they work better, are easier on the eyes or even have better UV protection and in some cases eye protection is worth it (some lenses will withstand hits / stones etc. and not break / shatter in your face - not that this is likely needed for a 'fishing' pair, but it all adds up)
For info, I have 5 pairs of Oakleys and another on the way (see my post in the general section) as I like them and think they are worth the extra money over cheaper ones. Some pairs for fishing, some for general wear etc.
best bet is to try some and see what YOU think and for what budget YOU want to pay

It's same as anything really mate, the more you spend, the smaller the increase in performance is.
Like cameras... a 500 quid camera will give you great results, a £1000 camera will be better, and a £2000 camera only slightly better than that.
Rods..... You can get a rod that will hit 200 yards for maybe 100 quid. A 300 quid rod will do it better, and a 600 quid rod just slightly better than that.
Same with sunnies. You can get glasses that do the job for 10 or 20 quid. A 100 pound set will do it slightly better, and a 250 quid set of Costas will do it just slightly better still.
Polarising may well just be polarising, but you can get rubbish lenses and great lenses that can be polarised.
The difference may be minimal but if you want the absolute best you have to spend the money. Small margins of performance cost big bucks at the top end of almost all products.

Placebo????? completely wrong.... I noticed the difference with the cheapo non Oakley branded lenses that were put into a set of Oakley frames..... Same frame, same lens fitment, no sudden change in light coming in through gaps etc.
There are different lens qualities that make a difference
Your comparison with a digital signal that either works or doesn't has no relevance on glass lenses. Or do you think that ALL tyres are the same as they are all round and grip the road in exactly the same way??? Or do we think a branded name is better performance just because of the brand, or is it because they are made of different and better quality materials.........

totally agree, i have had lots of different pairs of glasses over the years (im an expert in breaking and losing them!). Fox, ESP, Bolle, Costas, Fortis. there is definitely a difference with lenses. I mainly use Costas now.
i would also say you are better off having two sets, a standard and an amber set.
If you want a decent pair on a budget, look at the fortis strokes. i have these in amber lenses and are decent. can be had for under 30 quid

Good advice.
You should set yourself a budget and buy two pairs (different colours) , rather than buy just one which is a more expensive pair.

I too would agree. I ended up getting a set of Costas that cost a fortune for 'normal' use and a 20 quid set of amber Fortis for dawn/dusk. Almost wish I'd gone mid-range on each. The Mrs would go mental if I bought another set of Costas.
