My army surplas DPM gortex leaked as well. No matter what i did i couldd never make it waterproof, it just got wet and soaked through the fabric. I always assumed thats why it was surplass.

Thing that threw mate mate is when you say weight, vkrtually noting to hold water, it's just a shell
Spray mine now and again with Fabisil. Not problems for me

If the DWR is old/ faded the face fabric will/ can ' wet out ' and absorb water instead of the water beading off. apparentley the DWR can be re-activated

Yes,exactly,a much better description of what I'm trying to say..
But ,lol,there's always a but...,anyway I bought a brand spanking new Mtp jacket it had pockets,looked nice etc,and was waterproof,after a lot of use,say nearly a year ,it started to take on ,darken and hold water,which made the coat heavy,and not that nice to use .
So using my military contacts,I asked a few lads and what they came up was tumble dry it...I tried that,I made it not much better,then I did what scozza does and re proofed it,,like I've done on all my army gear...so ,was out on my Ferguson,it rained,it leaked...I binned the bugger and bought the Highlander on recommendation from a member on here,think it was 39 quid...
I really like ex army stuff,I got a few bits,tarps,dom trousers,all good solid kit..

Yes that's real mate. It's a generation 2 as Chuffy said. I've just ordered myself a Generation 3 from the US. My Gen 2 has given me 6 years of great use now.... The Gen2 will still get used for piking. My friend came down the pit to see me last week and had just imported a Gen3. It looked very good so time to treat myself. The Gen3 has no cotton liner, it's just a pure shell and lighter.
An easy way to check if they are real is to check the webbing tape behind the liner. It should be stamped ‘gore-seam' on the tape itself.

My Flecktarn has decided to start wetting thru after many years of use. Looking for re proofing agents, I noticed Screwfix of all places are selling Grangers 3 part clothing care kits.. 300ml of performance wash, 275 ml trigger gun of repel plus along with 100ml of axtive turbo wash. All for £7.99. At this price its worth a go!

most important thing IMO is wash it first with pure soap (wilko sells it)

Had a Helikon one. Utter rubbish, leaked like a sieve. The Miltec one is very good though.

My ECWS Gen 3 turned up from the US today. Worked out about £170 total with import fees and taxes from fleabay. I know from previous through someone else, that buying them direct from Tennier Industries works out at over £500... Looks the mutts nuts. I'd guess it's about half of the weight of my Gen 2 where it is just a pure gore-tex shell.
