For me the debate is not whether the Twig is right or wrong or acceptable, (it is obvious that this thread provides a resounding "no" from the vast majority in that respect) but more-so why it is being allowed on certain waters and is the Twig, in reality, any worse than other items of end tackle that we chuck out into ponds day in day out?? (that is one of Hamidi's favourite lines of defence after all).

of course it is. What other item that we sling out
1. doesn't detach fairly easily from the business end in the event of a breakage
2. definitely acts like a rake and "wants" to gather crap on the retrieve if it's been activated.
This really is a total no brainer surely?

Exactly, for the repeated reasons I recently posted and summarised in Matty's post below - this is worse. It absolutely IS the worst carp terminal tackle I have seen in contemporary times.

To be crystal clear, I'm not trying to say the Twig is anything other than horrific....!!
OK, what about the Korda Heli-Safe, an item that actually has the word "safe" in it's description? Lead drops, which it is designed to do, line snaps and a fish is trailing 6ft of leader around that could get tangled around tree roots etc?
I am not saying that the Hel-Safe is on a par with the Twig but it could be argued it is as dangerous in the wrong hands/circumstances.

Leaders are bad enough as it is. I don't agree with their use either - but I am less vehement in my disagreement than with something that has the aesthetic of a plastic anchor.

i don't use leaders but i know plenty that do, good anglers that I have very very rarely seen have a breakage. They're not in the same league as this monstrosity.
I am finding this whole thing very disconcerting. Its a death trap plain and simple - and it's aimed at anglers that still don't really understand the difference between a safe rig and a dangerous rig to start with! i still see people on day ticket waters tying the hooklink direct to the eye of the swivel - what chance have we got of those anglers stopping to think logically about using the twig? none whatsoever.

i agree, the whole mechanics after a crack off or line parting with a heli set up is the weight of the lead applying enough downward pressure for the swivel to remove the top bead and in theory the lead should provide enough weight for the hooklength to slide all the way off...I looked into the heli safe and won't use it as with no lead its impossible for the above to happen...its no where near as crude or obvious as the twig and no where near the amount of.people use helicopter set ups,living in the North West I don't have mich choice with the silty meres etc

In the event of a crack off, it works as a normal heli set up.
When actually hooking a fish, the safest rig, is one that gets it in. Dropping the lead assists in that instance, especially in a weedy lake. If you get cut off no matter what rig you use, you are leaving that fish, towing the same amount of line. But generally, once the leads dropped, fish come up in the water further away from most stuff that could cut you off. Anything can tether a fish. Leadless, it doesnt work as a heliscopter rig, with lead attached still would granted, but it wont leave anymore line than a leadclip for example
And leaders, unleaded in this case, is far less likely to cause a tethering, that the meters of mono left behind it. The springing mono is the issue with most tetherings. The leader however going through pads, weedbeds etc is a lot less likely to be cut. So increasing the chances of landing the fish, and safely returning it, with no rigs whatsover attached to it still

when hamidi was messaging me (he's now stopped) I did say to him the name sounds like a kids story book.....he said wait till the book comes out after the launch 😂😂😂😂 not sure its gone to plan for him
