The club I'm in shut our main carp water twice last year for spawning.Both times it lasted longer than a week,that's not long enough imo

Took my daughter fishing today for her first "proper go" at it. Ended up with a nice small bag of roach from a stock pond that I got told off for fishing, until it was highlighted to the bailiff that he used to let me get live baits from it for the past 5 years, and his own website says it can be fished by kids tiddler bashing. So off he sloped to collect a tenner each off the 15 blokes dressed head to toe in Nash, casting two ounce leads at spawning single figure fish
Put a slight sour note on a lovely morning.

My local lake opened last Saturday. It's now shut as the fish are spawning. Gawd.......

Don't worry about the bailiff, you were able to point him in the right direction😉👍🏻
Your kids had a good day, and that is what matters.
Sadly not enough people understand about fish spawning, or catch at all costs.
I've managed to book a night or two on Essex Carp Syndicates day ticket lake.
I just wish Anglian Water would open their fisheries though; day tickets can cost a fortune right now, and having to travel further afield, money i'm loathe to spend with being on 80% furlough wages

Is there and has anybody seen a definitive government statement on overnight fishing.

I haven't seen a government statement but the Angling Trust published something saying it was OK to fish overnight. The statement was made in consultation with the government. Some clubs and syndicates are still sticking to days only for the time being.

Yes, that's the best I've seen. Ali Hamidi seems convinced but it all still seems to be interpretations of ambiguous guidelines.
