“Innovation is a constant presence in fishing as anglers look for ways to catch their quarry more efficiently. However, we would always encourage people to adhere to both national and local fishery byelaws which can be found on the Environment Agency website here

Within this legal framework it is for clubs and fishery owners to decide what angling methods are permissible on their waters taking into consideration the welfare of their stock and the nature of their fisheries. Further advice from the EA would certainly be welcome and we are aware that the Environment Agency are working with fisheries and other stakeholders including ourselves to decide whether any additional regulatory control is required. The amount of interest that has been shown is an indication of just how seriously carp and other anglers take the issue of fish welfare.”
Intrigued on what the Angling trusts view on the matter do I asked them that was their response

I've just banned the Magic Twig on the little brook at the bottom of my garden. I've deemed it too dangerous for the minnows and bullheads.
