It all went wrong when people realised they could scrape a living together from it
To be fair, there are a few successful anglers but a lot more desperate ones trying to get there. The downside is that it has put the pastime in a pretty unbelievable state as a result of people seeking fame and fortune, bull****ters, back stabbers, stroke pullers, bitches and catch at all cost types, all trying to best each other to make an extra quid
When antics like this happen it's another dark shadow over the image of angling, end of the day you could say it is only a fish and it is, but if we have got to a place like this then it is pretty sad, very sad, as is all the social media hanging around it

Funny thing is iv'e never warmed to Martin as a media star (cough),just something about his personality ,although you can't deny his fish catching all round abilities.... His insta ...39,000 plus followers yet he only follows a few back.Smacks of someone who just cares about their own self promotion and profile.
My own judgement of him aside ,this whole sorry episode is most disappointing for angling in general...

He's not saying that he definitely didn't rehook a barbel, just that he's not convinced that there's video evidence of him doing so.
Perhaps he just can't remember whether he did rehook a barbel on this occasion, with it being quite common practice?

This ‘legal' disclaimer makes everything even worse.
It screams poor me - squirming and no regret. They are out to get me!
Nobody can discredit anyone without a truth and this he is not denying.
Should have paid a bit more for legal advice and gone for something a bit more apologetic regards the pressures of filming and regret.
It would happen in any walk of life - almost professional revenge porn - he knew and was being paid to be on film, gave full consent to be filmed and knows exactly what is happening by the let's keep this quiet.
Whilst it's distasteful- the real disappointment is that to anyone outside fishing will look on us all as “wow not only do you do it once, you go again for camera and sport'. It's the guys living, but as a so called ambassador for angling he has fallen so far short of expectations that is deserving of the outrage and criticism.
Release something heartfelt - apologise and say that whatever the outcome you fully understand that it's not a good look - it was a stupid thing to even mention and that you deeply regret not that it was filmed but even discussed. You have learnt and will move on and would be working hard to regain trust in a passion he loves and earns a living from.

Carp ,Barbel,Catfish have ALL been regularly replayed for years just for the Videos !
its just now its being posted and the people that hadnt realised are all shocked
same as venues that are closed so they can be pre baited for weeks and out of bounds areas being allowed to be fished for the videos
and the bait used to catch the fish is often not the one shown on the video etc its just now this video has really exposed it for all to see
out of interest my other hobby has been metal detecting and a few years ago at a big rally a well known detectorist found a hoard of coins he quickly kicked the soil back over them his mate stood guard while he ran back to the car and swopped to the detector he was sponsored with then his pal videoed him finding the coins

Sadly, at the end of the day, the greed for money and admiration overcome's ones sensibilities.
I would have Martin down as pretty high up on my integrity list, now no longer..
It's also about time the 'followers' face up to the fact that there are no ' stars or celebrities' in this hobby, none, never has been, never will be. There are plenty of highly capable anglers who are highly tuned in the life persuing specimen sized fish, and human nature has a desire to emulate, or be guided by these successful few, but the modern day social media lifestyle allows far too many to become self proclaimed gurus that are, deep down, pretty deluded.
