There is an all round carp rod that is great from the margins to the horizon, for zigs and range fishing!

I'd agree with you on the rod issue, however surely people can walk a lake and find the fish. I've never been a slave to only fishing to known spots.

Not doubting that you would do this but most don't. I've seen too many pits that have cheap tickets and a good head of carp be completely ignored for years with hardly anyone choosing to fish them. Then a couple of people publicise results, the good swims get known and dug out and suddenly there is a queue to join!
Not knocking people for doing this as everyone is different but I am convinced that 100x more people think that they want to be pioneers vs. take the opportunity to be one even when it is on their doorstep.
