I don't get this weight thing? A reel either balances or it doesn't. People saying that they cast further due to lighter weight doesn't cut it for me. Isn't a certain well known distance casters favourite reel a Tournament 6000 which weighs 670g?

Exactly why I posted it. Lots of personal opinions and that is all they are. It has almost turned into another manufacturer v manufacturer load of *****

I've always thought the same. If the reel seat is the point of the fulcrum, then it's surely best to have the rod balanced at that point or slightly butt heavy. Especially considering there will be a lead weight hanging from the top. It must be better for the speed of the cast.

If you like to be mobile and don't use a barrow, then saving 100-200g per reel ads up to quite a difference - particularly if you buy all your gear with weight saving in mind. Easily adds up to trimming several kilos off what you're lugging.

I have to say i have both FX9's (Mk2) and FX11 reels from Fox .... I bought these out of desperation as Shimano's XTB's and XTC's were shockingly bad reels at the time (imo) and so over rated by the fan boys. I have not regretted it since. What is a tad ironic is the Okuma Inc 6000 at half the price of all of them is probably the best of the lot

Problem is with those reels if you get a fault your ****ed basically . At least shimano and daiwa have readily available parts. Now I like to change my reels everynow and then so doesn't bother me if a set only lasts a few seasons. Just get another cheap set. Depends what your after really.

Had a look on the Shimano tribal page on fb, saw a post talking about the spools of the Shimano AeroTechnium MGS, launched last year, but can't see anything about a new launch that's coming tomorrow?
