One day I'll get my head round this idea of using a rod length to mark out the distance between your measuring sticks. I have a length of cord, 5 yards long and a bead positioned every yard. It's just a simple case of, getting the sticks out of the holdall, stick one in ground, pull the cord tight between the two and push the other in the ground. Job done. No fannying about laying a rod on the ground and risking damaging it if your a clumsy sod like me and far easier multiplying things by 5 instead of 4 and adding the yards measured between the sticks and thinking yards instead of wraps and not having to worry about using different rod lengths. A simple thing is over complicatated.

Hadn't thought of that! I can use it for passing walkers, cyclists, yummy mummys etc on the park lake. Come to think of it I might just set it on red if they're really pretty.

I really don't Understand why people are struggling with the idea of how this works? It's irrelevant on how long yours rods are aslong as you put the distance sticks the same width apart, it's still the same amount of like coming off the spool.

80yards is still 20wraps on 10/11 or 12ft rods aslong as your distance sticks are 12ft apart which is the standard distance used with the cord that comes with them.

Well I'm old skool I guess..

When I visit or fish a new venue,I generally have a walk round..yep,in my mind I'm gravitating towards that area,ah...the waters a bit stirred up here,few bubbles coming up..,that'll do me...lol

Or on the big ressies I fish ,I think...them all casting out a very long way possibly over the fish as well,ahaaa...I know I shall fish the areas most overcast on,get a bit of freebie out there...wait,over the far margin is a wind turbine,that's my night marker,the red dot above the blades, whip out the marker elastic, mark it up job done...

Or....I just use my innermost intuition, borne of fifty yrs of course angling..

Works for me,as I've got older...I'm out to enjoy the experience, the weather,the wildlife and so on...a fish,and believe me I catch my fair share is a bonus...

One trick if you want to be secret squirrel and put people off the scent of your hotspots is to put your sticks at 11ft

Put mine 6ft apart, saves time wrapping up, essentially useful on quick over nighters, and of course has doubled the distance I can cast without wasting money on lessons and massive expensive distance rods.

Wraps is just another fashionable reinventing the wheel obvious result of the massive financial marketing machine in which it joins the ranks of a endless list of product based fads but every once in a while some of these products actually are of practical use but always suffer from an over inflated out pouring of praise, people are paid to invent products that are purely aimed at relieving anglers of as much money as possible. A fine example was the marketing machine that led to massive sales of fluorocarbon by the way of brainwashing many into the overuse of slack lining trends, basically nothing new but anglers getting wrapped up with wraps!
