Been toying with idea of using s7 but not sure yet my freezer is full at minute and my season ,weather permitting starts in less than 2 weeks all being well 4/5 days on the canal after another 30,planning to throw everything at it to get that mirror I want out,it's rumoured to have been out sometime last year at 35 plus and there's another 2 x 30's in there (I've had the common out already) but I've got 14 plus miles of canal to go at and it's going to be the first proper year I've given dna baits a try on there.

Similar story for me. Always previously used frozen. But been on DNA SLK shelflife for 3 years now and have had my most consistent run.

Sorry, as an old post, however just reading with interest. I have lost a bit of confidence in any shelflife boilie after listening to a Korda podcast with Dave Moore (I think) as it sounds like they are not likely to aid your catch rate.

Happy to make my own mind up, but I have to admit that it did put me off slightly as he definitely knows his stuff and have heard similar from others.

I dont agree with that at all, been on shelflife the last 2 years and not affected my catch rate at all.I would actually say its got better and I have out caught people on freezer baits on the waters I'm on

Dave Moore has his opinion and he's entitled to it. Plenty of other bait brains like Jason Rider will tell you the complete opposite, listening to all will just put your head in a complete spin.

Only advice I can give is that I've used DNA shelfies and always done well with them. Never once have I felt they hindered my catch rates and at times have helped. With shelfies I can keep 10kg in the car knowing it's there if needed and can fill it in if necessary. When using freezers I always was cautious with the amount of bait taken to avoid wastage and run out of bait on occasion.

That's a good point, ive spoken to the dna guys a few times on their live chat and they're always happy to help so if you're unsure then ask them,I use the freezer baits and any left over I chuck them back in freezer and reuse them but it's not loads,I also noticed last month the bug started to turn white and I had 2 runs had one lost one so maybe they are more attractive when they are turning, not sure if this can be done with a shelf life bait due to what's in them to keep them shelf life

There was an interesting post on the RG baits Facebook page the other week when they were implying one of their baits is better on the turn. It's not something I've ever tried having always tried to keep bait as fresh as possible. I've never been a fan of re-freezing bait either which is another reason I find myself using shelf life more and more these days

I've been on DNA baits for what must be pushing 10 years now. Was always a freezer bait person and hated the idea of shelf life. About 6 years ago I lost access to a bait freezer so was thinking of moving to a different company that provided shelf life. Coincidentally at the same time DNA brought out their shelf life baits so I simply carried on with DNA. After about a year or so I managed to get access to a bait freezer again but just used that for particle. Didn't see the point in switching back to freezer baits as I didn't notice any difference in my catch rates and having the shelf life baits was just so much more convenient so for the last 6 years I've carried on using them. Only time I've used freezer baits is if the rules state no shelf life baits are allowed

I've seen you say that a few times now, got to say it has me thinking about the shelfies.
Between about 2011-2014 I didn't get out often enough to justify a big freezer order so used Dynamite Shelfies, I was pleasantly surprised my catch rate stayed the same, not sure why but I was expecting a drop, guess it was years of reading bias against them.

Not sure if it was Jason at DNA I was speaking to, whoever it was said to think of their shelf life baits more as short shelf, certainly not as the old type of long life shelf life as they don't contain the same or same amount of preservative.

I had a similar conversation with the guys at Baitworks. Been using a lot more bait in my new syndicate and simply do not have the freezer space to store the extra and didn't want to keep ordering and paying delivery every time, but would have if that was what was needed. They told me that many of them use the shelf life version for convenience and only use the freezer baits when rules dictate. I've continued to catch well on the shelf life so no issues in using that predominantly going forward (although have just taken delivery of 10kg frozen bait Herb to try but if I like it will likely use that in a combination of frozen and shelf life). Talking to bait people, who know a hell of a lot more than I do on the subject seems the old ideas about shelf life no longer the case, as in both cases they were getting an order so no reason to push the one over the other

Strange isn't it, perhaps it's just something locked in anglers heads who are over a certain age. The Korda Boys using Mainline Shelfies will probably translate throught to the younger generation, who know's. I bought giant fish storage type polystyrene boxes for transporting frozen to France...a thing of the past now...hmm...odd thing is in the old days I only ever took shelf lifes (Nash Euroboilies...remember them...lol).

The Herb, funnily enough I was looking at that the other day, like the inclusion of Fenugreek. Had me thinking about the recent onion boilie thread and success I had on Secret Agent many years ago, even made my own Asafoeteda Oil when RH stopped selling it..fond memories stinking the house out

Some interesting points raised. Decision has been made for me on my current syndicate, as they do not permit shelf life, so I have to use frozen which is definitely not so convenient. Whether any better or not, I cannot say, as I still blank most of the time

Shelflife have certainly come a long way since the early days.

I use o use Jason A Baits all the time usually NB2 and Plum Zing and even though they were fresh shelf life i would always freeze them as soon as they came.

I'm currently using Trent Baits and I'm going to get a few bags of the stabilized range just to keep in the van.

What do you think of Trent baits? Freshwater shrimp has had great reviews and quite tempted to give it a go, just not sure if it is an all year bait?

Also like the look of bait works Atlantic heat. Almost too much choice these days 😂
