Feel for you, I'm probably a bit older than you, still learning to, but unfortunately I learnt long ago there plenty of bs out there, I've been involved in small ways with bait people etc and let's just say some of its not what it seems, I say to my mate don't watch the videos go out there and fish, make mistakes learn , your come out the other side 10 times better, and I'm not just talking big fish, good luck

They have said in a follow up post that it's not a known angler.
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are at it. Ive seen a few names first hand have some pretty amazing results in the last couple of years, now that could be because they fish mid week, and are bloody good anglers. Or it could be for other reasons. Shame if it's from natural ability cos I'm sure I'm not the only one raising an eyebrow on my waters.

Fishing mid week isn't an edge on many of the cercuit waters as they are busy seven days a week, maybe not so much mid winter.

It's a total embarrassment for the hobby. I love the podcasts, listen to them all as I spend a lot of time travelling. I remember the Ian Russel one from last year. Nice guy, plain speaker. He said there's no point in entering the matches now. It was pretty obvious what he was referring to.
If this is happening these guys need running out of fishing.

This is where angling needs some kind of governance. Until someone takes this up it will rumble on for years. Threats of slander I think would be a minefield for those accused.
To me with finance and authority it's simple.
The drug is controlled and only a few have access to writing prescriptions.
You audit the prescriptions and the end users who would I assume have the relevant livestock licenses.
You investigate any prescriptions from lab to end user that can't be traced to vet application.
It won't happen, but all it would take is one user to start to realise the heat is on and the whole house of cards will come down. That truly is the only way to uncover any misuse - until then it is a pointless discussion because I just can't see how you prove or disprove.
If any controlled drug could make you hit a golf ball in the hole anytime, and this was used by amateurs to win prize money it would be sorted in months. Because it's just smelly fishing nobody will take up the mantle.
I have no idea if anything has been used - but the human “no smoke without fire” exists in all of us.

easy to control if done correctly ith the use of drugs, its done within the livestock sector for meat production with blood tests for hormones in cattle, pigs and sheep....
BUT
once perscribe, how does one control dosage?
i know alot of vets and work with them along with DEFRA, something i may well bring up

I suppose it could be referred to the EA but dont know what grounds they'd be able to potentially take legal action on.
But more likely it'd be DEFRA around the controlled substances angle on it.
Issue is, you bring this to light and it goes public the entire angling world looks really bad and the antis will be all over it, could have serious repercussions for angling as a whole.
