Rather than challenging a hypothetical why not ask the OP for more clarity?
@chopper The assumption you were fishing came from your statement that your brother has claimed fish on your rods in the past, therefore you both fish together?
Did you reel in your own rods, to tend your brothers when he left?

With a swift departure ,that's how I get all my buckets !
Even better if they're full.
And you can find out if someone is sneaking banned tiger nuts in...
I have a nice collection of buckets myself, and I have also managed to get water to last me another 3 days...

I would say that the skilful act is the application of bait and rig in the correct spot for a bite. Reeling a fish in is the easiest bit, but still necessary.
If you don't do both of these things I can't see how I would merit a capture. In that case it's just a fish, enjoy it together and who cares who did what as neither counts!

I wasn't fishing with my stuff at this time. My brother had rang me and asked if I could look after his stuff for a few hours while he popped home.

Ah right. Thanks for clearing that up, and apologies for a mistaken assumption.
Personally I still wouldn't count the fish as mine, unless I'd setup,cast out etc. etc. That said, a photo with your brother? Absolutely! I'd count it as a joint capture, enjoy the moment, and get that rod out again

It's a thing that just makes it easy. I e if I'm not fishing with my gear. And my brother needs to pop home or else where then if I'm not busy I'll pop down the lake and look after his stuff. And he will do the same for me. And the bailiffs are happy for you to do that. The only time we don't do it if we are both fishing. Then if I need to leave the lake I'll pack up then set back up when I get back to the lake . And brother will do the same. Aw

As to claiming it I personally wouldn't but would have much fun winding them up.

It can happen when rod sitting, especially when sharing a swim.
To my mind they count for nothing on other peoples rods, and go back with no photos the same as foul hooking.
There is no value to reeling one in that someone else has done all the "graft" for.

I used to know a South African who drank in my local (nice bloke). He used to fish with 2 friends, if one of them caught a nice fish they would all take turns in having their pic taken with it and share the capture. He thought it was odd that I thought that it was odd....
