This has taken carp fishing into the realms of cycling, Russian athletics and body building. If a record gets broken in any of these sports a lot of people will just think the competitor was on the gear. Big hits in fishing will now be viewed as worthless as well.
I've gotta be honest apart from the Maker fella I have no idea who the other people releasing the statement are. So I will use him as an example. Let's say he rocks up a linear for the gazillionth time (other venues are available) and bangs out a load of fish. So he plasters them all over social media, hashtagging the **** out of his bait sponsor. Well all credibility of that capture is gone cos no ones gonna believe it was done using his current bait. I bet they are well happy with him. Can you imagine the sarky comments every time he does a catch report.

Wraysbury is the epitome of what carp fishing has become - Horton being it's ridiculous progenitor -, that being centrally geared around money, and loads of it, which I'd go as far to say is worse of for it. Carp fishing has become a joke, and a very bad joke at that, I mean, carp matches? FFS!
It's true to say that the genie won't be able to be put in its bottle, more than likely somewhere along the way either people will move on to the next thing, I don't know, catching big shark, or carp fishing will just fizzle out of its own accord or be banned for some reason or another.
I wholeheartedly applaud people keeping their mouths shut so as to stop the silly words coming out, I encourage it. Even if Maddocks never told anyone about the hair rig, people would have still caught fish on floats/swim feeders, you name it. Even if Wilton had never put pen to paper in regards to HNV baits, fish to this day get caught on stuff like sweetcorn, funnily enough Yates's record the Bishop fell to the golden grains, you know? Don't get caught up in the thinking that if tackle companies or similar didn't have involvement with development that new ideas/strategies/evolutionary concepts would never get created, people do the aforementioned just because...
Anglers broadcasting where they're fishing/what they're catching/how they're catching has played a large part in carp fishing's gradual demise. By watching carp fishing content, all you're doing is encouraging anglers to put more videos out there which only attracts yet more anglers, which ends up with places becoming more busy, the fish become harder to catch so people will find yet more ingenious ways to catch carp at all costs with the net result in the whole thing being one great big giant cluster f..k race to the bottom.

I can well believe it, if truth be told, generally speaking I can't stand "carp anglers", they make my skin crawl, so much so i fish places with not a lot in that only a few like minded souls tread the same paths and share the bank with.
Since I first caught my first ever proper carp back in 81, I've mostly fished for them. I do fish for other species,.as a matter of fact I'll be out next weekend watching a float drift down my local river, happy to catch whatever comes my way 👍

I hear you! So I know as individuals we can escape and do some 'proper angling', be that for carp or any other species.But I'd love someone in the limelight to call this all out, not just dodgy bait but everything to do with modern day carp fishing. I know I'm probably dreaming.

Yes mate,..I see what you mean,...I don't think anyone will stand up to be counted, you see I have experienced this myself ,on another emotive subject,a subject that I warned everyone about,..a lot,I never gave up..!
Although....and..
However,one person did stand up to be counted,above the parphet,and this person ,by bringing the carp chronical ,hormone situation to light has done that ,the same person who helped me and , ironically angling as a whole..on the other subject,or at least brought it out into the open..
People should never ever be afraid to tell the truth of a situation,even if inadvertently it somehow goes against them..

It seems strange that the two podcasts were removed from YouTube, when they didn't name anybody, but threads like this one and the one in the bait section which are full of information about the alleged goings on, are still active. If the alleged perpetrators have had the podcasts removed, then surely they would want as much of the information that's out there, removed as well ??

We could do with a few things happening:
A whistleblower comes out and anonymously puts the information officially on record.
One or more lakes name the substance(s) and ban their use.
Angling trust or another organisation makes a statement clarifying the situation.
The discussions NEED to continue, and eventually someone will put something on record. That's always how these things pan out.

I think Mr Russell's message is so much more powerful than anything else said:
He's stayed quiet and doesn't enter matches anymore
He is one of the best match type anglers around

What I find so sad in this sorry mess is the absolute silence from the carp fishing industry, tackle companies, bait firms, fishery managers... The whole lot of you need to hang your heads in shame, you more than anybody know what's going on.
Here is an issue that could have far reaching negative effect on the industry but not one prepared to step out and show some leadership, spineless the lot of them.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit that Mr Fairbrass will pipe up about this and no doubt condemn any such usages of hormones and be a leading figure in getting this out of fishing. I don't know him personally, but from what I've seen of him, he comes across as genuine in respect of fish care and fisheries as a whole.
