None of what I'm about to type is meant to be sarcastic, so please don't take it that way, but I'm struggling to understand why I'm not coming across, it could just be me, it happens.

I know the spools show them spinning, I said that in my post and the 2 pictures are clips from the video. If you look at the clips closely enough I think it's fair to say you can see it's a motion shot.

I've said twice that I lay the spool FLAT on the floor, not upright, I also said that I place a bankstick through the spool and use my feet to alter the pressure for loading. I did fail to say 'while spinning' but I thought it obvious.

The only other way I can think of describing the way I do it, the video with the stick through the spool, take away the bucket and water and instead put your feet either side spool on the stick. You don't need water to load line this way.

I hope that clears it up, because if it doesn't I give up or your on a wind up

So after all that I think we agree

That's the problem with the written word, 'eats shoots and leaves and all that.

So what you are saying is that there's two ways the line can come off.
One coming off the nearer to you, the other way being the furthest from you.
I've not really thought about that before, I wouldn't have thought it made much difference but now you've mentioned I suppose the line coming off furthest from you (as in the second of your pictures) seems the right way?

Or are we still not understanding each other

It has to have the label turning anti clockwise, so I think that's only 1 way but my head hurts now ...but as someone might already have said what if the labels on the wrong way round

It has to have the label turning anti clockwise,

That's the last part of the puzzle solved, I know fully understand, hooray!

As I said before I wouldn't thought it would make much difference but in the future I will make sure the label turns anti clockwise

Ridge monkey flourocast, cast well sinks well and quality abrasion resistance.Spooled clockwise, anticlockwise or upside down.Been using it for a few years never had a problem.

I think you are confusing yourself if you had a label on both sides one would spin clockwise and one would spin anticlockwise as the spool is unwinding.

My take on it is with the spool through the pencil method as you take line the spool can only spin one way as line is coming off if it span the other way line would be going back on

If you mount the spool so it spins on a pencil, then the line can still come off two ways...
It can leave the spool on the far side, or if you twist the spool around then the line can come off on the near side.
One way will be right, and not twist.
You need to do 20 turns then let the line fall slack and see if it's starting to twist.

But which way is the spool rotating? it either winds on or winds off one side is clockwise one is anti.

Also which ever side you take it from far or near it is still coming off in the opposite orientation to that of which it went on. Compared to line coming off the face of the spool where it isn't coming off the way it went on.

If unsure then stop after 20 turns and test it. You should do this anyway as there is no guarantee that it's labelled the correct way around.
Don't get hung up on labels and clockwise/counter-clockwise.

I think your missing my point with a spool through the pencil type if you look at it from one side it is clockwise the other anti but which ever way you take line from front or back the spool it will always rotate in the opposite direction to which the line was loaded. Which i believe will be without any added twist.

I dont believe the labelled correctly matters with that method so im not hung up about it what im trying to imply by that is say for example you have line coming off the front of spool the right hand side of spool will appear to turn clockwise but from the left it will appear to turn anticlockwise basically the spool is rotating to let the line off the way it went on so not adding any extra twists.

now if line is taken off a flat spool obviously it matters a lot one side will add a lot more twist than the other.

Nope, I think you're introducing another factor which isn't a issue as far as I'm concerned. In fact come to think of it I don't think I've ever seen a spool with a label on both sides.

The mention of a label on both sides was to try to question your thinking that the label has to turn anticlockwise

This.
Just try the three different ways when you start reeling. After a few turns stop and pull some line off your reel, then check the twist.

My thinking

You will note in my posts, that I never stated it was my thinking about the label rotating anti clockwise, I clearly stated it was on my Daiwa reel instructions and also quoted from Chris at Gardner, and that I seem to remember having always done it that way, but I've had those reels over 20 years so may be wrong prior to that. You might want to contact Daiwa and Gardner, see if they want to question their thinking.

Rather than start a new thread, what are peoples suggestions on the best casting mono?

My old man needs a good casting mono for a big pit. Snags etc... are minimal so it doesn't need to be the most abrasion resistant but he's not the best caster out there, so any help he can get from his line would be great.
Are you sure?
