Agree with this....let's be honest, even if you Carp fish in the harshest of UK weather you are never going to be out in it long enough to get really, really wet, certainly not enough to justify £400 plus on a jacket....we sit in our bivvies peeking through a letterbox opening!

I use Berghous and found them to be brilliant.
As others have said never confuse waterproof and warm. You need waterproof and breathable and decent options of under layers so buying bigger size. I fish days mainly and with a thin jacket and surplus gortex over trousers it's so easy to fish even in torrential rain and be dry and comfortable. I have warm coats - but wouldn't want one to do both. Mid spring or summer downpour is the same wetness as winter so decent wool jumpers, thermals are what I change not the coat I take. I have the original Korda suit and whilst good it is too ‘stiff' and tries to do too much.

The thread isn't for carp fishing only though, as posted it's for walking and sitting out in the rain all day long while fishing hence the need for waterproof and breathable. The perfect jacket for me needs to be both the above to wear over a T shirt in summer downpoor and over merino base and down jacket when cold and wet.my days bivvied up caping are coming to an end due to age I'm not as fit and mobile as I used to be so hopefully keeping mobile on the rivers and walking lakes will help slow the aging process.

Their top line jacket is a drop liner job and I will never buy another jacket of that type as the shells eventually take on water ,laminated is far superior.

In that case, Arcteryx. Real outdoor gear that does what it's meant to do. Mine cost £400, so yep not cheap by any means, but still going strong after 17 years, so compared to all the best fishing brands it is probably cheaper in the long run. I got pretty upset last month when I wrongly thought someone had pinched it while on a French public but thankfully found it folded up in my chair week after I got back home..

Ive been impressed with my aqua f12 thermal jacket. 10,000 Hydrostatic head. Its very light for a thermal jacket but is surprisingly warm.

The only and i mean only jacket that has served me well and is totally waterproof and warm is made by Nomad uk.They are made for stalking and here in scotland i have known blokes to sit out on mountains for 12 hours in extreme weather waiting to take a shot either from a gun or from a camera. They are not cheap starting from £350 ish to £600 but they are the best.Unfortunately the maker of these is ill and folded the company this year .But they still have stock in D and g countryways .Just re read and they are definately not a summer jacket.
