Ive used the loaded, its fine, but I can see what guys are saying, pro clear was a good line in 16 a few years ago, great distance

Doesn't say much for monofilament development if Pro Gold is still top of the pile. I used to use it donkeys years ago.

Monofilament is monofilament
, it hasn't really evolved much.
Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from:-
It doesn't cast as well as some, is more prone to twisting \ less supple, but that's all minimal - it's mono.
But it's reliable, tough, and is the lowest stretch mono you can buy, end of, and that's the only reason I buy it.
Plus it sinks well, and I like the colour, which suites the waters I fish. Not that makes a difference to the Carp ?

Not sure there is a best, I usually work on the assumption that the thicker diameter the heavier it should be.
Currently using Gardner Pro Light Blend in XM which is .40 very thick & wiry but still having a few problems with debris / algae lifting it and I'm only in the edge.
It does make me wonder what it could be like fishing further out and whether a return to my old 20lb X-Line is in order at certain times of the year?

Korda sub line for me, in 15lb and 12lb - has been very reliable and has a lot going for it... low memory, good knot strength, casts well, good abrasion resistance and longevity. It's the best mono I have found to date and over the years, I have used most. Back in the day all we had was Maxima or Sylcast, now we're spoilt for choice and depending on what you want, lines vary quite a lot.
