. . .do the 4x4s have a DSG option? My other half has a 140 DSG Touran that is bullet proof (assumed same components as Skoda) - she abuses it and it just will not die! Have been tempted to confiscate it for fishing myself but that would mean buying her a new motor of which I'm obvs far too selfish . . .

Yes, ours is 4x4 with DSG. Works well.

I recently bought a Honda crv 2.2 cdti as a fishing wagon. There is loads of room when rear seats are down. It has plenty of power, 40mpg easy on a good run, 4 wheel drive and plenty of ground clearance I cannot fault it. I only paid £2500 for it has dual climate control, cruise control, parking sensors is uses cam chain instead of a belt and it's a Honda should be reliable.

What plate is that on? I've got a 53 plate CRV which is petrol so is a bit thirsty on the juice but nothing else to complain about, fits everything in no bother. Looking at the next newer model in a diesel, that or a diesel berlingo/partner.

I got a mk 1 petrol crv,..about 20 yrs old,its been the best fishing wagon I have had,thus far..
My porterlite goes straight in ,handle on as well,it's a brilliant country car,I go across fields,the moors and use it as a bug out vehicle, it still looks very nice for its age..when it dies and I need another,it'll be another CRv..
Comfortable road vehicle..!..edit,if you get an lx version,on the rear seats,you can configure them in such a way it is possible to sleep in them with an air bed,I've used a tarp over the back glass door and slept under that last week on my bedchair ,was good,lit the lixada wood stove ,made a brew and some fried food on that..

have a look at a skoda octavia estate, it will take all your gear no problem. might even pick up a mk2 vrs for that sort of money

The rear seats come out easily as well for more capacity for longer sessions. Just a few bolts and their out.
