I'd be interested in seeing a photo of the Leslie's pin
The Fred crouches can take a bit of running in, mine has freed up a lot in the years I've had it, I've started to use the brake lately when trying to cast a bit further. I'm almost tempted to speed up the process on my atom with a bit of brasso, it still needs a flick to start it and that's had more use than the crouch. (I use the atom for trotting, crouch for carp)
I prefer true pins like it as you can slow it down just by turning your wrist.

I like the back to basics nature of it? I've been keeping my eye on a few, Okuma Sheffields seem to be going for near new price, so I'm not sure if I'd buy second hand, the Raw even more.
I must admit to erring towards JW Young and a reel with a click check and brake at the mo, not fussed about a cage. Had my eye on a John Wilson on Ebay but they ended it early (sods law) but note it's being made as the JW Heritage now.
Also getting the warning re Davis.

I tend to buy new if they're available still, used prices don't seem good value for buyers.
Prices keep going up tho, you complain about the price of used Sheffield, I sold mine for £90
You could buy them for £100 new at the time though
The aventa pro was the best value of the okuma, mine was £60 new and just as good, though not as pretty as the sheffield

Lol I thought you might be Tim. I contacted him today and he kindly responded within about 5 minutes Lol.
We're both unsure. Could be a good copy. I don't recall reading at the time where everything “insight” was sourced. It's a great reel nonetheless.

. . .not had a chance yet - rivers in the Midlands are all in flood (even the Alne which is a Frays sized stream) but will let you know when I do . . .won't be bombing down to the Colne until lockdown is sorted (visit my OAP 'rents!) . . .
