I have had eleven such procedures as I am in a high risk category. Prostate gets checked every year too. Neither procedures are pleasant but both are vital.

My mums just been through and still i guess going through it, but it good news, she had the chemo (tablet form) and radio. if your chemo is tablet form take the anti sickness tablet don't try and be a hero like my mum she didn't feel good with the chemo she didn't take the anti sickness tablet she' now on her second course of chemo and this time she taken the tablet and feels fine and she on a stronger dose of chemo.
She responded well to both chemo and radio and they couldn't find anymore cancer but they give the opportunity to have have the part of the bowel where the tumor was removed and stoma fitted (this is so the bowel can rest and heal), they class it as the gold standard treatment. she didn't have to have the op but they said she would be checked every three month and my mum didn't want to live with the constant not knowing
Its lucky she did have the op and they found some small cells but they hadn't passed through as they took a load of lymphnods and they were all clear, anyway the doctor and decided to nuke her with the second dose of chemo which is going ok on just incase they may have missed anything.
Hopefully after this course she can go in and have the stoma removed and get on with her life.
I've gone on a bit just kept on typing, but my mum has been positive through the whole experience and i really do think thats such a major contribution to beating this this horrible condition. The treatment is intense and can be horrible and theres loads of blood tests but if you can focus on the reason while your putting yourself through it, it might just help.
I wish Iain all the best for the future and hope he gets this sorted and can put this in the past as soon as possible. all the best

Had the camera up my arse and also had the pleasure of down my throat

Had an experience with C myself years ago of the skin variety.
Very scary, quite often passed out during consultations at hospital and doctors surgeries and even driving home due to the scary nature of what was going on. Mrs was pregnant with our second and often layer next to my two year old at bedtime thinking well if the shirt hits the fan at least I will see the birth of our second.
Well that was 7 years ago, got the scars and never want see another hospital or surgery again if I can help it.
Wishing you all the best Iain and a very speedy recovery. You will soon be back to full strength and showing us those latest Shimano reel that make us all look good when we are blanking,
