IIRC, In one of the podcasts it was alleged that packaging for a hormone, or hormone mimicking substance was found in the bushes at an undisclosed fishery. If true it certainly implies someone unknown is using it. As it was discarded in the bushes maybe it also gives some insight to the type of "angler" prepared to use it.

Few weeks in now and still none of the “superstars” have come forward to condone it, maybe they have known about it for years, maybe they are on it....who knows, when lots of dollar is involved people do strange things.

General practice amongst fish farmers to stimulate spawning, and yes, the fish subsequently are killed.
The above sounds like something out of a cheap sci fi film but, nothing surprises me with the multi million pound “industry” called Carp (cough) angling (not sure angling is the right word anymore).

Said it for a long time, the amount of information, quality baits and rigs that are available these days, carpfishing is a pretty level playing field, anybody who thinks any different has been conditioned by bluffers for a long time.
The difference is finding feeding fish and giving them a bait that they like or are willing to accept. Start with pressured fish and getting them to readily accept a bait is something else.
Of all the years I have fished time is the biggest asset for any carp angler, can't catch fish when you are at work, at home or doing family things, fact.
The difference between a good angler and a bad angler is, the good angler will have good watercraft skills, can find the fish and feeding spots quite quickly, the best anglers are also adaptable to the situation. Give me a kid with a bag of mainline and a week and I am sure he can catch a carp with a little bit of guidance, it's done for us
The whole media machine has conditioned carp anglers more than the anglers have conditioned the fish themselves! Any experienced angler can see this. Catching carp is not rocket science but it does require a serious level of commitment to be consistent and that's where most people get it wrong
Enter the hormone and this completely swings this balance. It is clear to see, it's a game changer beyond belief, no doubt, but you cannot help thinking that the whole carp scene and a lot of people's catches over the last few years are seriously questionable and tarnished because of a few mongs by the sounds of it trying to “claim fame” and who will not stand up and be counted,. If they had stood up and said, “yep, we have been using hormones, I don't think it would be such a problem, probably opposite, amazing!!!
However, the health, environment and the impact on the fish would have put a rather grey cloud over this and that is why people are not, and never will admit to using it but I guess the carp world knows different though

I still can't get my head around why the hell you would even contemplate doing it, put it this way-
To promote a bait companies product you need one thing
To endorse a tackle company's product you need one thing
To write Magazine Articles you need one thing
“Credibility”
Shame there's not a re-set button to around 1985 as far as Carp Fishing is concerned.

Yes, easy to get cynical especially if you've been fishing while. I try not to, don't always succeed mind! The type of places where you can escape it all and do some proper fishing are few and far between. They do exist and I'm lucky enough to have found one this year. Small membership, like minded individuals all of the old school.

I think for many you're right there. Credibility is vital if you want to be a respected angler.
However, for some people it's simply fame and perhaps financial reward they are chasing and that maybe does just equate to 'lots of photos' of big fish.

So the products that are allegedly being used are actually used in aquaculture, am I being stupid (it wouldn't the first time) but if that is true then doesn't that make the Facebook statements of innocence rather meaningless.

The major problem, as i see with the hormone super bat additive that will come out from this debarcle, is there is currently literally thousands of w@nkers of so called carp anglers currently spending hours and hours on google scouring the internet to find out exactly what has been used and where they can purchase it from, who dont give a flying @@@@ that's is possibly illegal, unethical and just want to be able to copy there idols.
I'm glad I'm a member of 2 small syndicates with only 12 members on each, the day ticket waters will be even more of a circus than they are currently.......

I couldn't listen to more than 5 minutes of the 1st deleted podcast, but an amusing thing I noticed was that it began with a sponsor's plug, naturally.. toting the latest wonder flavours, tipped to blow everything else away from testing....
Then to put forward an argument against the use of these chemicals on the grounds of an unfair advantage, well it's hypocritical. Do we think a bait company would shelve an environmentally safe product that had fish crawling up your line? Would they ****.. it'd be £00's for a drop of it!
Focus should be on the wider environment, because being brutally honest the fish in question don't have the rosiest looking future as it is with angling pressure and repeat captures.
And who put some blokes that go fishing on such a high pedestal they settle squabbles in a bloody court room?
