A genuine question for those who say we are being led up the garden path. Why would governments want to hand out billions of quid for people to stay home and lose millions in tax revenue by closing businesses

Exactly it puts these conspiracy theories down the toilet. And what about all those with long COVID (they say 1 in 5 is getting) , I've a relation who 2 months on is still struggling and has been diagnosed with long COVID and can't walk 100 yards without getting short of breath, he has a family to provide for.

I have no idea if there is some double secret agenda. All I can do is best guess as to the reasons why things have panned out the way they have and apply logic.
What I will say is that looking at the numbers death wise, all of this does seem like some massive over reaction, coupled that with the fact that if anyone says anything to the contrary within the media sphere, they either get called a loon (conspiracy nut) shut down or de-platformed, not that there's anything out of the ordinary there if you bother to even take a glancing look at the lopsided/unquestioning media with the never ending wars that we've all been accustomed to for instance as an example.

If a system becomes corrupted , always follow the money , who's benefitting and how have they done it , large corporate lobby groups have corrupted our capitalist system for obvious reasons , like avoid paying tax , who can honestly tell me that any of Boris's front bench are not attached to dirty money , our press and media are not fit for purpose this is when alternative news sources fill the vacuum ,the outcome is chaos , undeniable . We are in a bad place !
2008 we were £700 billion in debt and suffered 12 years of austerity
2020 at the end of this we will be £3 trillion in debt , last night they said it's "not a problem "

the numbers who have contracted covid / been hospitalised / lost their life are all within the context of lockdowns, restrictions, distancing, school and work closures etc. I'm no fan of Boris and his cabinet of idiots, but if none of these measures had been put in place then the figures would be so much higher. and if more people had engaged with the guidance properly instead of thinking they know better because they read something about masks on facebook or they were just bothered about catching a sodding fish, then the figures would likely be lower.

to most of the comments posted, get real people!! As a friend of mine said a while back this thread is a complete waste of time and should be locked, political threads are not really relevant to a carp forum. Should we still be fishing, yes and playing golf, yes, going to supermarkets, beaches, parks, walking or running along streets are all far more dangerous.

It should be allowed for people's mental health,I can go into work everyday with 300+ people but I can't go sit by a lake in fresh air on my own.1000 deaths today,yeah ok I believe they were all covid.Lets keep covid though as its cured all other illnesses as nobody is dying of anything else these days
