My mate recommended 18lb GTHD to me after I had a nightmare with 15lb syncro. Used syncro for years but the last 2 spools have really put me off. The GTHD has been brilliant so far. Went on the reels perfect and no twist at all, can't believe how limp it is for an 18lb line. First impressions are great and il be sticking with it for now 👍

I've been a massive advocate of GR60 for a long time and never even thought to change. But like I've said I'm not fishing anywhere near as much these days (no 'campaigns') so my time on the bank is more precious now so I'll certainly take a look at the recommendations and keep away from Fluoro 😂.

Has it improved your casts?
One thing that shocked me when it was being tested was how much further I could cast with it. I've always been a good caster, but this line added distance onto my longest casts, even using the 18lb.
It's such a good mono. That's from someone who will always use fluorocarbon or braid whenever possible. Even after I was no longer with Gardner, I sourced loads of spools of GTHD for the future. Can never have to much of an exceptional product.
There must be something going on during the manufacturing by the people who actually make the Syncro. Always hear the same thing. People say it's bomb proof, then get a spool or two that go completely against those thoughts.

I asked in a tackle shop the other day and ESP have changed something in the processing of syncro.They were told that by their ESP rep,looks like gthd is the one im on next

What i described was definitely 2015. I even double checked on a date stamp from a photo from that trip. It had only been released for a couple of years or so at that point.
So whatever is going on, it's been happening for at least a decade.That's clearly why they keep releasing different versions of it.
They need to change whoever it is manufacturing their lines IMO Bradders. They have such an incredible reputation. Stuff like this is not good for that. Something is clearly going wrong with certain batches/spools.

The last lot of syncro just seemed abit wiry and hard if you get me, but yeah the GTHD has really surprised me, I seen quite a few mixed reviews on the 15lb so I was abit dubious at first but yeah my mate assured me so I got the 18lb and first few trips it's behaved really well so far 👍 one thing with the syncro is that it held up really well in weedy conditions so hopefully this GTHD passes that test, if it does then I might have found myself a new long term mono.

Yeah it's a pre stretched mono. Always best to step up slightly. If you normally use 12lb mono, the 15lb is what you want. If you normally use 15lb, the 18lb in GTHD is what you want.
I was using it on the river Thames in 18lb. 6-7-8oz leads, often with big stringers. That puts incredible strains on any mono..... Weak mono does not stand up to it whatsoever over a period of time. The GTHD did.
I was absolutely sold on Hydro-Tuff. I thought I would never use any other mono. Until I was given unmarked spools of GTHD. It really is an incredible monofilament. Lasts on the spools too, does not become hard & wiry like some other excellent monos do after a few months on the spool.

If your not Fishing mega long range I suggest good old Berkley Big Game, its as tough as old boots, and casts reasonably well. My main water is pretty weedy, I was using ESP Syncro in 18lb but had a couple of breaks/cut offs, changed to TA line which I though was a step backwards and put 20lb BS big game on and have had no issues since (touch wood!).
Line is a personal choice ( hooks as well) when you find the right one stick to it and prey the manufacturers don't change it!

I have esp syncro xt 18lb on my mono spools and it's been great.
I have a spare spool of it, bought at the same time so all being well it should be fine.
Big game will never let you down, slightly stretchy but tough.
Not had an opportunity to check out the gthd but will consider it when the time comes.

I also use Big Game still. It's what I use as a long leader (50m) when boat fishing at range with braid. Use the 25lb (breaks at 40lb+) in dark green which is absolutely bomb proof, sinks like a brick & blends in with Canadian pond weed a treat. It's lovely & stretchy too which is exactly what I want when it's on the end of 600m of braid.
Big Game went out of fashion. But it's still one of the very toughest mono lines around. You would like Hydro-Tuff as well Riggy if you like Big Game. It's not quite as stretchy as BG, but it does have very similar qualities. Only goes up to 20lb though.

Went to shop after work today and picked up the 18lb gt hd,will get it on the reels tomorrow.I hope it's as good as the feedback.
Yeah, I've picked up a spool of 15lb gthd to give a go too.
