It shouldn't take a team of rocket scientists 10 years to track down who was using sodium cyanide, near the canal. If they do, I hope those responsible get fined on a massive scale, and the fines directed to help repair rivers and canals that need help. Of course, the cause of the contamination could be irresponsible dumping of waste. Catching the culprits if that is the case could be more difficult.

A company, Anochrome, have admitted responsibility. It's been reported that they informed the EA when they realised they'd had a spillage.

If it's a small company then a massive fine is not going to be feasible, those responsible should go to jail for a long time.
