From an “All-rounder's “point of view there is no closed season it's just a case of switching species. When the River Coarse Closed season begins the Game Season opens, I probably actually spend more time on the Rivers in the Coarse Closed season fluff chucking.
I was always lead to believe it was the Gentry who introduced the so called River Coarse Closed Season to keep the Commoners off the Banks so they had them to themselves, during March & April for the spring Salmon.

Has anyone here tried to relay the close season to the general public? Feel a right T*T saying 'oh yeh can fish a canal or a lake but not a river'..... and then get that quizzical look!
No wonder theres illegal fishing out of season as it baffles those not in the know, new to the sport, kids or those that choose not to know! What a stupid backward system we have to accept.

If you want progressive join natural England, get rid of non indigenous species, rewild with indigenous species that have died out.

I reported 3 cases of poaching on the River Dee to the EA .
Two of the three was British born anglers one fly fishing as bold as brass by a bridge in front of passing traffic, the other on motorbikes.
Not sure if anyone turned up

Fly fishing is permitted during the course closed season.

During the coarse fish close season you can fly fish and worm (using appropriate tackle) for Trout and Fly and spin for Salmon (Salmon licence needed). You can`t spin on a Trout licence. With regards Trout it must be reasonable to assume they are present in the stretch you are fishing.

4 years ago on 15th June I arrived at mid day and set up on the banks of the Middle River Trent Clifton Bridge stretch waiting for midnight of course
a wide cycle track runs along that bank and its very busy
on the other side of the river 2 polish family's arrived
(( I worked with polish people and can recognise the language ))and the men began spinning I phoned the EA they said they didnt have anyone in the area I saw them take 2 pike in bags I was there for 3 days every day they came and fished every day I phoned the EA NOTHING HAPPENED
AND WORSE !! a day later when the swims were all occupied
A dog walker stopped and asked me is it a completion as I havent seen so many people fishing here
I explained it was the start of the season thats why you havent seen anyone fishing for the past few months

I walk my dog twice a day here and there are always people fishing here every day mostly in the evenings

They won't do a thing. Quite a few years ago now I was talking to one on a local lake where the Polish used to fish without a ticket or a license. Basically told me they just act like idiots and pretend they don't understand the language. What can they do, **** all really unless they get their car registration, even that is tricky, tracing them etc. Easier to deal with English people though he told me

The EA do nothing,had a lake emptied near us.The EA were rang numerous times and never showed up once,the culprits even sat with bbq's cooking the fish as they caught them
