I know it's not the same in terms of quality but a mate of mine at last weekends Carp show bought 8 x NGT Stainless Banksticks, 2 x 3 Rod Snag Bars, 4 x Stage Stands and 3 x Back Rests for £40.
I really like JAG Stuff, it's really well made with some nice design touches but I feel they're pushing the pricing too far now, the 2+1 Buzz Bars are £160 a pair... Custom Angling Solutions for a similar set (arguably better design) are £85
There's been a lot of chat on this forum of late about the price of other tackle items most of which I've thought the price is what it is you don't have to buy expensive rods or reels for instance, however a Free Spirit Distance Rod will give you more capability than a budget alternative, I'd imagine the development and gear used to produce it is expensive, I really do like a nice bit of fishing kit and have loads of it but a Bankstick is a Bankstick no?

I also see that jag are now selling direct from their own page at the same price it is in the shops, cutting out the tackle shop sees their profit margin increase significantly.

I would say it's a rip off that's the problem people saying it's not so all that will happen is prices will keep going up
While on subject there lockdown's are not that good all this faffing around with these inserts over engineered having to buy a whole pk per rest so the rest of pk unused
It's like ca carryalls you have to pay extra to have stiff sides but you can buy a cheap carryall off eBay with sides stiffened it's all a rip off open your eyes there taking the pee

I am not defending them
I work for a British manufacturer and Metal is hard to get atm and are limited to how much you can buy as the stockholders share it around.
No different to say...Eggs, have you tried getting eggs lately ?
However,
They are a small part of a bigger business and not a cottage industry and have wages,tax,vat,pensions,holidays,sick,etc
No different to many other companies who have put their prices up for seemingly no reason.
You can buy a bank stick from about £5 all the way up to £60
You can buy a car for £10000 or buy one for 250k what's the difference ?

Had no problem getting eggs loads about I say again £55 for a bank stick is absolutely ridiculous same as £100 for a hoodie
I've seen carp fishing go to the dogs over the last 40 years so much so I started fishing the rivers 5 years ago to get away from this madness

Are you the person who posted that they don't go carp fishing, they just buy the gear and put it in a cupboard?
I suppose if you are buying just to look at and admire engineering then £250 for some stainless metalware could make sense.
If you're going to use it and put it in the ground then it's a bit silly.

I suppose when people say you don't have to buy it what it comes down to carp fisherman we are all in the same boat not just on here we are a carp fishing community and complaining about these prices is like telling a friend that his flies are undone

I was but just started back up again as joined a new water and enjoying it again. I worked in engineering so appreciate the work and machines that are used to make them.

If you think £100 for a hoody is dear, my mate i work with has just paid £800 for a hoody that looks like someone has just flicked there paintbrush on. It just looks like any other black hoody but has white dots all over, but its his money so he can do what he likes with it, it dosent affect me.

I don't think prices are too bad when you factor in everything else these days.
Labour costs, energy costs, materials, import costs etc etc
It's still a relatively cheap hobby compared to others.
Their is tackle from many different manufacturers to suit all budgets.

You've hit the nail on the head there. There are plenty of different brands with varying prices, look at the equipment within your bracket and stick with it. Certain brands will up their prices as they don't want to lose profit with increased prices (entirely reasonable). I'd love to spend £55 on a bankstick, sadly my bank balance, and probably my wife would laugh at me 😂😂😂

How many shops, especially the big chains, have stock bought at the old price and charge at the new one. I've been looking at goretex chest waders and they have gone up a hundred quid in one go.
Buying in bulk 3mtr lengths of stainless tube or for solid sticks buzz bars etc...depending on grade 304, 430, 316 but probably 304 for the most part or even Ali tube, material alone for an extendable 12" stick will be expensive atm, I've seen a peak of 65% increase in stainless costs over the last 12 months it's settled down a little bit in the last few months but nowhere near what it was 12 months ago, a little less than that in other metals/alloys.
An inner and outer part with threaded insert and ground spikes, braised, machined turned down, tapped etc... energy costs, running costs, machinery costs, labour and consumables I'd say a UK company charging around £50.00 a stick for something unless lost should last a lifetime is slightly elevated but pretty reasonable.
