No Ali Hamidi, it is a massive improvement.
Proper mates rather than forced friendships and banter.
There are Anglers who do fish waters like this continually. Salagou, Rainbow, Les Graviers. Jake Langley-Hobbs went from water to water around Europe, Rainbow, Lac Foret De Orient, Salagou, onto wherever.
I actually watched that programme about Les Graviers, and had to laugh. There is so much information available about it, where particular fish hang out, what features they prefer yet 'they' made it look like they were doing all the work. No mention of the venue switching on at a particular time of year as it often does according to Bill Cottam in Behind The Rods.

Jake Langley-Hobbs I wonder whatever happened to him? I bumped into him one December 2008 I thick anyway years ago at Gigantica, I was down at Lesmont fishing the week or so before Christmas and called in to see D Turtle at Gigantica on the way home as I had fished there just prior in the November before Danny was opening it the following spring, I got on pretty well with Danny T have since bumped into him at a few other lakes etc...
Jake was camping out at Gigantica for a week or two waiting for supplies to be delivered before he went on to Italy for the remainder of winter, he was telling me all about the fishing he had been getting up to on the public waters I think from memory he said that T Paisley had basically paid him for twelve months to travel Europe and submit stories for Carpworld each month as he was doing it, fair play to him I dont think I could of tramped around Europe in a van for twelve months with two nutty Weimaraner dogs in tow.

He's living in UK, just done a 400miles in a month cycling challenge for Cancer Research.

Nope, Ali was missed by myself. He added intelligence in the humour and banter that may go over one or two but was clearly missing in last night's effort.
It won't put me off watching, as the carp fix was there. But is it good enough to hold the interest of those who don't go carp fishing? That will be the crucial question when they come to renew next years series with ITV...

I missed Ali like I'd miss a toothache, can't stand the bloke. If I was unlucky enough to go fishing with him, I'd return after the session with permanent ear ache after listening to all his waffle.

I also felt Ali/having a third person was missed. The dynamic just is different with three people vs two people. Much like the original Top Gear they had a good chemistry between the three of them, with Tom and Neil being foils for Ali's antics. It felt like it was missing something without him there. Think they'd have been better off by introducing a third person. Wouldn't have to be someone who was anything like Ali, just someone else they get on well with to bounce off and raise the energy a bit.
Also do Korda now have a deal to sell Canon cameras or something? Why all the close ups of them taking photos of each other?

I prefered it without Ali but feels like its now just a fishing show that might not have the same appeal as the old verison to none anglers. Hope it doesnt just fall now of mainstream tv with it just being fishing.

I enjoyed it, as a fishing show...BUT....Ali brought some pace to the programme and tbh he's nearly always upbeat, even if over the top at times, I've got to say I found D&S a bit dour overall and towards the end I found myself getting bored.
To confirm what Sharpda said my Mrs said it's lost the fun element which often made the programme for her as she's not that bothered about the fishing truth be told.

Got to agree with the general feeling. i cant stand Ali but something was missing and I was bored. The "banter" was too forced. They were missing a third person.

Always enjoyed the show but there is something missing without Ali there.
He was the perfect stooge for the 3 of them, the 'sketches' need 3 people ideally.

Watched Episode 2 and feel even more strongly now that they're really missing having a third member of the team. Felt a bit flat.
Also the fishing is so ridiculously different to the way I fish it's hard to relate. Fishing 400m away and using boats to do everything just isn't carp fishing as I know it.
