I can't believe what this pastime has turned into, absolutely well and truly mental 
The only thing I can think of is that it's people trying to create a carp fishing past or the odd collector. Must be all about the image!

I gave mine away. Then bought something better. Antiques are interesting and fun. Not necessarily the best thing for the job today. If people want to collect antiques and pay an unrealistic amount for them then go for it.as P.T Barnum said " There is a sucker born every minute".

Been watching a few things lately on eBay that went for crazy money, I was watching a fox camolite low level carryall it went for £88 with £7 postage you can get them brand new for £80/£85 with free postage then I was watching some jag black stage stands and 2 bank sticks was interested until they got upto around the £90 mark they went for £105 in the end 😲 it seems to have all gone a little crazy

Bought an Aqua Fast and Light groundsheet in October for £50, sold it the other week for £130 when i bought a new brolly. Just ‘cos everywhere's out of stock and people down want to wait. Saw a unused one go for £180+. Madness!

Antiques are interesting and fun. Not necessarily the best thing for the job today
And quite a few new and updated items aren't as good as older items.
My Cobra Ace stick is still going strong, and has outlasted a couple of mates carbon sticks.
Quite amusing seeing one disintegrate, literally, in his hands. He had been careful to replace it in the 'drainpipe' after every use. My Cobra just gets put in my holdall, or even thrown inside the bivvy after use.
'Antique' Shimano reels circa 1992-1999 Aero GTE Baitrunners are better than the current models.

Longevity aside. I know which I would prefer to use for a long period.
If someone wants to use old tackle then good luck to them.
I would rather use the best I can afford out of what is available. If that best is second hand tackle then so be it. Newest doesn't always mean best. However without innovation. We would still be using catgut for fishing line.

Quite the opposite Tony, looking forward to the game taking a step back to it's roots, fortunately I'm insulated in more ways than one.
