Might also be worth checking your charger that you used for the main batteries if you haven't already.
I've seen partial failures in charger control circuits that stopped charging at too low a voltage.

Sorry for the late reply, actually managed to get some fishing in, so didn't get a chance to play with the broken boat again yet, however, I changed all the batteries the morning, Fully charged and checked on a meter before connecting up and no it wont switch on at all!! the lights work, so i don't think it is the switch, but no lights on the speed controller or RF module. Will strip down and put everything back together tonight, and replace the few connectors that didn't get replaced first time. If that doesn't work, it is going to Howes! Thanks for all the help and suggestions, I will post the outcome for future reference.
