A lot of carp anglers sit behind stationary rods with alarms for when there sleeping , reading , watching films , they play the waiting game ,
Matchmans fish for a variety of species with a variety of methods quite often during the worst time of day for feeding activity on lakes and rivers ,
Trotting a float down a river is an art form , I'm struggling to think of any method in carp fishing that I'd call an art form , maybe floater fishing (just )

I generally just try and pick a good spot.

There are lots of terms for a piece of lake or river bank where you fish from.
There are various terms to describe the piece of water you are fishing in.
There is a specific term for people who start threads like this - ****

A "Peg" is a location and dates back to the 16th century in Eastern Europe where they would attach one end of a net to a "peg" when netting a water for food (usually carp). These were marked out with specific distances to ensure they weren't netting the same area of water. As said being used now to map out fishing matches.
"Swim" is a modern terminology usually referred to the body of water in front of the designated "peg"
I'm not sure calling people noddies and advocating 5 year bans is really the way forward considering your lack of understanding of the terminology.

This is England, not eastern Europe.
A peg on a lake usually has a number on it denoting the available places to fish from. You wouldn't fish from the Brambles peg, you'd fish from the Brambles (((swim))).
