Not exactly, Every bait is made to a budget.
We pay our money, we make our choices.
Even with massive buying power that mainline have, you still need a base or industrial unit, etc. Storage space, Bait ingredients, precision boilie rolling machines, wages, tax and vat, packaging, mass marketing advertising campaigns all dig into the profit margins and selling it to the shops at trade price, to allow them to profit with there bit on top.
If you look around locally to you, you may find a local bait maker who with less overheads can sell for less to you, saving you money on RRP, especially if you buy in bulk.

Ok that's fair enough, but to even to remotely insinuate that Mainline Baits ain't that good is a little bizarre to me as this particular company has accounted for more carp on the bank than any other company I can think of.
However, if the topic of agenda is nutritional qualities, then that is another subject.
All I know is... If I was told that I could only ever use one commercial bait for the rest of my days then Mainline would be in the top 2.

True, but do you think it's caught so many because a) it's a great bait or b) it's used more than most and advertised better than the rest, especially with their link to korda? I roll my own bait, but if I were buying off the shelf stuff then anything they do wouldn't even make my top 10

Well I suppose it would all depend on what you are going to be measuring what your desired results are going to be.
If it's to catch a carp... then I don't think anyone can dispute that Mainline can produce a good catcher, regardless of the amount bought/used/marketed/promoted. Ironically, I haven't been an avid user of Mainline since the release of Active-8 and I can assure you that the hype was real about that bait!
But as I eluded too previously, if it is to produce a superior nutritional bait, then perhaps doing your own thing is the way to go. With the right research, then this is achievable.
But back to my original point. Mainline definitely produce top fish catching baits... IMO.

I have to agree. Yes, plenty goes in a lot of waters, but that is not imo why it catches so many fish.
Take the hardest fish to catch in this country and know that they have been caught on mainline multiple times.
I don't use the stuff either (also since Activ-8 funnily enough), and wont be using it, but it cannot be denied that the stuff catches fish.
Is it the best? No (imo). But will it give most decent baits a run for their money? 100%.

They produce baits that catch carp yes, but I've fished my own bait alongside people using cell many times and out caught themby a considerable margin so to me yeah they make a bait that will catch a few. Anyway the op was asking about base mix rather than ready made baits, and their mixes are very expensive compared to others

I'd be looking at QB myself, the base mixes are perfectly good, Simon has quite a loyal customer base for 20 odd years. I cant remember his name but the lad Simon had working for him set up his own bait company too iirc, his baits were getting quite a good rep too back then.

Didn't it use formaldehyde as a preservative
I don't get it.
Why are peeps willing to spend hundreds of pounds and defend it on grounds of quality etc on Rods, reels, bite alarms, shimano, century, free spirit, daiwa, delkim etc but want the cheapest bait possible and slag off more expensive bait saying it's a waste of money and you get the same for less?
It's an Oxymoron..

Nobody has said anything about rods reels or anything else here andy. It's about your comment that the more you spend on bait, the better it will be, which is absolute nonsense

Whenever I see Starmer baits I just think of when they used to be all the rage at Fishabil.
Caught enough back then.
Not a high end priced HNV bait range. But catches a few carp.
