This product is being attacked for good reasons, and it goes far beyond anyone's perceived dislike of Ali and the company. I for one like him and usually find him entertaining. There are, however, so many issues with this product in terms of fish safety. It is simply unacceptable. It will undoubtedly catch in the mesh and many anglers are not experienced enough at handling fish without this potential problem. Would it cause me a problem with the fish in the net, no it wouldn't, but then I've been fishing for decades and would find a way around the problem. Unfortunately, I'm not the typical carp angler nowadays. I also note that in order to cast long distances or to attach phone nuggets or PVA mesh, he will have to use a PVA cable tie on every cast. Unless you are a brilliant caster, who gets it right first time every time then you will soon get hacked off tying a cable tie to a wet bit of plastic every single time.
It's also massive. Magic twig, more like crazy log!
The issue of the EA bylaws is also an interesting one. Potentially that kills it dead, just like that.

I'm not keen on the invention, it smacks of desperation. It doesn't help that the original inventor uses the phrase “ what can I make that will strike for me whilst I'm tucked up safe and warm in my bivvy.” That phrase smacks of lack of responsibility for your own actions, abdicating the hooking of a fish to a piece of plastic.
A lot of anglers who are non carpers abhor the bolt rig as a self hooking monstrosity which is against the spirit of angling and this will incense them further. God help us if the anti's get hold of this. The story is out there for them if they join up the dots. Can you imagine it - “ they drive to a lake and park up behind a manicured spot, send out a drone to find the fish and then send out a boat to this spot which drops the hook and bait. They then skulk in a tent with a bed (sometimes with heaters), watch videos on a pad and go to sleep until a fish picks up the bait and a device automatically hooks them. They then reel it in ( the only bit of physical effort) and take a picture which they then put on social media and throw the fish back in for the next angler to catch”
It's about as far removed from the public perception of an angler strolling down a river with a rod on a misty morning for an hours fishing as you can get.
Will lakes ban this device? - yes. Will people buy this device and use it where it's not banned ? - yes. Will people use it where it is banned? - yes. Will OMC make money? - yes. Will there be a non carping backlash or anti angler backlash? - who knows, but if it does it may be worth digging out the float rod and waders and head for the river on a misty morning.

I think this may be a prime example of a typical product thats not been field tested by guys who will tell Ali exactly what they think. I think some of these companies have field testers who literally just tell the companies what they want to hear. "Oh its amazing" "oh you have done so well" "this is the best thing since sliced bread". I think alot of these products lack genuine constructive feedback. I saw he posted something about a day shelter on his instagram a while back, which was a concept and it got so many obvious flaws with it but he was going on like it has been tried and tested, but by who? People who will tell you what you want to hear so they keep you sweet and in their good books. I'm all for inovation, this may well open the door to further ideas, but its obviously got big flaws, like the fact he couldnt snap the legs on it after saying they would snap etc and why the legs are not the other way around.

I'm not sure this is going to give the antis any more ammo than they already have - as we already know - WE put sharp bits of metal in fishes mouths for our pleasure . . .FACT.
Whilst I'm all for fish-care a lot of it in recent years has been driven by the immense amount of £ in the industry and the cost to fishery owners in protecting their stock for the benefit of subsequent captors (as well as the fish themselves) . . .quite rightly we have ALL also been made to feel guilty (or perhaps less) about our pleasure / previous practices by investing in the best fish-care products to mitigate the fishes obvious distress and our joy before we slip them back . . .bit of an oxymoron whatever new fangled fish catching device we choose to use or not IMHO . . .

I've listened to Ali and his live this afternoon,he is absolutely panicking...he's telling everyone that's its as safe as any other rig out there, how.much pressure is it going to take to snap them arms off?? to me when he folded them back it looked to bend more than snap....how much weed is it going to take to snap them whilst a fish is attatched to a hook on the other end of it...how does he know how it reacts after a crack off, no way on this earth is that safe being pulled through weed .
