This is it mate. Like most things in carpfishing, hyped up beyond belief because some company or somebody is trying to scrounge a living for from it
There's lots of good bait company's come and gone, not because their products are poor, because they have not caught the sheep. Sad state of affairs for me. And then I see these idiots, the fame seekers, doing the self promotion and company promotions and they have not got a ****ing clue about bait. That's what annoys me

And this is why I roll my own bait and have done for years. I know exactly what every single gram goes into my boilies. How many other people can say the same?!

I know a bloke who had a bait shop, use to make and roll his own mixes well before the spike in carpfishing shall we say. He then started to stock pre-rolled baits from popular manufacturers shall we say. Because people were asking for them. He used to fill the freezers with said bait, few months later, everybody wanting the next new bait, few months later, same again, and again and again and again. Shut him down eventually. You would not believe how often some people change bait. It's the first thing they blame why they blank. Nothing to do with them fishing the wrong spots or the fish don't recognise it's as a food source ffs. Some other successful carp angler publishes his catches and names that bait, all the sheep are on it. He has caught the fish because he knows what he is on with, key point, and got the fish on the bait!
Look at big Jim, catches on everything he uses. Couple this with his style, heavy baiting, like mentioned below and what did he put in Wellington, 50kg hits. Bloke comes along with a KG of said bait on his water and thinks he is going to change the world, sad truth is, he ain't
There are some very good bait companies about with a good reputation, their baits catch fish, all people need to do is pick one, apply and stick with it. They will catch 100 times more fish than going with latest wonder bait every other week.
Like I also said, these trends have put a lot of people out of business too and will continue to do so. Once a good bait, always a good bait
Like fishing rods, you want a quality rod, buy century or Harrison's. Look at all the run of the mill companies pedalling fancy names and models all the time, catching anglers, not carp, new range of rods every other year!!!, must haves!!!

Ain't that the truth mate, I see so many guys on the lakes I fish even on the severely limited time I have who turn up with a couple kilos of the latest on trend bait, don't bother looking for the fish, don't bother finding spots etc just turn up take the nearest swim to the car park put out their bait in a general area and then blank and come round asking what I'm doing to have caught when he is using such and such bait which cost him X amount per kg, they are often shocked when I say for example on this estate lake I fish that the carp seem to like a sweeter bait and I'm using mainline peaches and cream, so not an expensive bait certainly not the best available but I look for where they are find some spots and also I soak them in a mix of the cell stick mix liquid, condensed milk an a bit of water. A good bait used badly is not going to work how it should.
As with the rods I have greys rods as Harrison's and century were out of my price range lol and certainly not bad rods at all

Bad bait in a good place will work better than a good bait in a bad place.i know someone that's caught on a Lego figurine legs before. They'll eat anything if it's put where they want to eat!

Exactly what I'm saying mate mainline peaches and cream is a bog standard readymade and I caught more than my fair share compared to guys using expensive baits but using them ineffectively

Met him once at a fish in and spoke to him personally regarding a bereavement.
Found him to be pleasant, informative and a laugh. With regards to speaking to him personally, was caring and showed genuine caring.

Carp fishing is a hobby. Being a decent carp fisherman doesn't get remembered if you are an awful human with it. Jim Shelley is a decent fisherman and didn't need to do all the other stuff. He will only be remembered as a bad person. Makes you think.
