Carp Porter Roamer Power Barrow. lifting into SUV? (18 posts / 1,497 views)

I have the old Carp Porter Fat Boy MK2, which I’m planning on getting rid of for the Carp Porter Roamer Power Barrow.

I can’t seem to find much online regarding the weight. With my current barrow, I usually take the arms off and lift it straight into the back of my SUV.

I’m wondering if the Roamer Power Barrow will be too heavy to do this and whether I’ll need to break it down every trip?

Any feedback from owners would be appreciated.

I've got one mate - the wheel and motor are fairly heavy to lift into the van, you'll have to piss about stripping it down and also the battery which weighs a bit. I invested in a short motorbike ramp, works a treat.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought that would probably be the case. The more I fish over the years, the more I prefer convenience, and I know over time it would become a gripe having to break it down every trip.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a van, so I’m not sure a ramp would really work with an SUV, might be a bit awkward ?

I’ve also started taking my daughter fishing with me, and those barrow trips can be a struggle, especially when the swims are further away. I really wanted a power barrow, but I’m not sure it would be worth it long term for me now.

Once you’ve used a power barrow, you will never go back. The ease of getting to and from the swim, massively outweighs having to break the barrow down to get it in the car for me!

If it's anything like the weight of my older power porter I think you'll struggle lifting it in on your own with the battery and wheel/motor attached.
With most SUV's the boot opening is not high enough to wheel it in up a ramp with much kit on it. I've got just over 1M height on mine and can wheel it in without the rods on, I do have to remove the front bar and set the Y bar fairly low.

Go for a mk2 conversion from BarrowPro.

Buy Lifepo4 batteries to go with it which are very light and you shouldn't have any problems.

That is the route I would go if I were in your shoes I think.

I have a Honda CRV and can fit in a Nash Trax power barrow. I can lift this in (emptied) with battery still on and front wheel. I remove the arms, back wheels and fold the bars. Its not that much faff at all.
It is light enough to manhandle in (just).
Great bit of kit and im not a nash fanboy at all. Think the PP one will be heavier?

First I’ve heard of these and I’m just checking them out now. I’ve made some enquiries with Lee as well, and they look a lot more cost-effective.

Have you been using one?

I use a Nash Power Metro with an SUV (X5) . . .never tried to ramp it as the boot has a split tailgate (that I'd be nervous about destroying) so I simply remove the handles / bags etc and lift it into the boot, flat to the surface and with wheels positioned upwards. It does have Barrow Buddies swivelling rear wheels permanently attached which adds a lot more weight than standard legs and there's a knack in lifting it without doing your back in but its pretty easy . . .saying that it also has LifeP04 batteries which loses a bit of weight over standard lead acid . .

Reckon the hub motor barrows are probably lighter than the carp porter variants as they're less bulky and have less protrusions to damage etc if your lifting in and out . . .the only real solution is a van and a ramp which is next on my list . . only prob is 4x4 (VW 4motion) vans are v rare!

Recently bought one myself. They are spot on to be honest.
Great company to deal with and it was delivered within a week.

Used it for the first time on the weekend and it was a pleasure to use. You won't be disappointed.

I got the batteries off Amazon. You will need 2.

Spoke to Lee this morning and just ordered one direct. Pleasure to deal with and very prompt with his responses. Can’t complain with the price, it’s saved me almost £1000 compared to a Carp Porter.
I was leaning towards the new Roamer purely because I’m a tackle tart like the majority of us, but I also want a new larger bivvy. As mentioned, I’ve been taking my eldest fishing, so the RS150 is calling my name. The money saved on the barrow can go towards that now. Hopefully it performs well, I’ll keep you all posted.

Thanks for all the tips, you’re a great bunch!

Can you let me know how you get on . . . I assume you've ordered the kit from Lee / Barrow Pro and are going to fit it to a Roamer yourself? He did message me with details / price but wasn't sure about quality etc - !

Quality is excellent mate.

The only thing I didn't like was the battery bag but i bought the carp porter panniers instead which is much better and has plenty of room for batteries etc.

I would be interested to see if anyone has had any issues?

I believe there was a previous version that was a bit slow or didnt have enough power but it has been rectified and a new model was released in April.
The one I have (newer version) is spot on.

Are you sure?
