I did a post the other day asking about shelters and drennan specialist 44' seem the only one that looked a possibility.
So been thinking outside the box and this scope poncho that doubles has a tarp and it's looks really cool .
Anyone got any experience with one?
Not the scope but I've been using what I seem to remember is a Nash poncho since the early 0's probably longer. It's my go to in summer but also on longer sessions, dump at the door instead of getting heavier jackets wet and they dry out a lot quicker. If the rain gets really heavy just sit on your ankles and it'll cover you entirely, yes it'll get a bit muddy but it comes off easily as it dries. Standing on it while playing a fish, watch out for that!

You could buy army surplus one for around 30 quid + sticks/elastic as required

Well I thought it would be perfect to cover me and my seat which is one these ha.
Nitehawk Spinning/Swivel Hunting Shooting Camo Bucket
It's perfect it holds loads of bait and bits of tackle.
My other two bits of luggage are waterproof .
Also I would be losing the weight of carrying a shelter or umbrella 👍

I have a nash scope poncho - tend to use it as a barrow cover or if I catch in the rain - it does the job well never used it as a tarp but think it could work as it is really light - i just leave mine in the barrow all year round - not sure how breathable it is so wouldnt fancy wearing it for any lengtyh of time but as a tarp would probably work
To give you a comparison Ive also got the nash waterproof smock which is a much better product in terms of waterproof qualities but weighs way more and I also have the zt extreme waterproof jacket the poncho is much more along them lines than the smock

So my thinking is it would be just an ideal throw on to cover me in and my seat in showers.
The tarp function could be handy for privacy/shade on dry days.
I am very much a roving angler in majority so it's starting to look like a good idea.

Been looking at military stuff the Dutch and Foreign Legion.
The problem with some of the military is the hoods are huge for a helmet.
But the Foreign Legion looks less so.
There is the
Snugpak Patrol Poncho also which is new and can be picked up for around £50.

I've used a poncho for many years & it's one of those essential bits of kit that never leaves my rucksack.
I originally had an army surplus rubberised version that was 100% waterproof that I used as a groundsheet, barrow cover, shelter, kit cover, sleeping bag cover, storm sides etc & it's still going strong now.
A couple of years ago a friend commented on how he liked it so I bought one of these for him - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33036990752.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.452e38dalc5GGT&mp=1 (You can get them from Amazon too)
It was so small & so light (&cheap) that I bought a couple more for myself & it's replaced the rubberised one. It packs down to next to nothing & is always in the pocket of my rucksack. I have found it to be 95% waterproof (slight leaks in really heavy rain) but it does everything I need & keeps me / my kit dry. I've not seen any of the variations from fishing tackle companies but tbh I haven't needed to.
