So the fish finder icon on the screen what size fish are small medium and large if I set it at large nothing set it to medium get a few so I was worried how big does it have to be to show large

For all these fish finders the prime market is the USA sportsfishing scene, small for bait fish, I'd say large anything over 10lb.
I never use mine for fish finding just lake topography and construction.
If I go on a reservoir for big pike and zander they are handy for finding baitfish, that's all imho.

Are these things any good used with a bait boat? Im trying to go for a more stealthy approach on pressured waters.

Yes mate, though you might want to get a range extender. Search the forum for deeper, loads of info on here including how to make your own range extender for £50 or less, in one of the latest links. Personally I use mine with a range extender from Matt at Fish Eye products, mount bought readily from Ebay around £10.

Not sure about that but you have to learn how to recognise things properly and then be open to it being wrong. I had the opportunity to use it on a stock pond with large Cats in, and when they moved up off the bottom they did show as a big arc, if they were stationary on the bottom it appeared as just part of the lake bed contour.
EDIT, personally I don't rely on it for fish location, I think the only thing that can do that 100% is some of the Dragonfly.
I've also had a large shoal of silver fish at 10m confirmed as a large disturbance on the screen of a much cheaper Horizon fish finder..long story involving a wild swimming/free diving neighbour at Sale Water Park!

forget using a deeper for fish its truly Pony for that turn that bit off
as its far too easily fooled by debris bubbles even weeds etc but showing the topography of the lake /river bed depths etc feature finding they do a very good job

Ok thanks. Im going to be fishing a pretty weedy lake in france next May and this will be perfect. Its not a very big lake either.

Quite possibly boat dependent but with my RT4 as the Deeper sits low to the rear I'd lose signal at around 60 yards on turning the boat when 'exploring' the bottom, the extender sorted that. I was told raising the receiver would help but never got round to it. If you do get it I'd have a play at the distances you expect to fish at in France before getting there

I've never used mine, it's hard enough to try and work out what the signal return means let alone let ai make a icon of it
hence not talking about icon size but arcs.

Not using as a fish finder but having not long getting it my just playing with the options to try and work out how it works bought it as a depth contor finder and anything else is a bonus use it on my shuttle
