Hi I am after some light weight waterproofs to go over my winter gear. I have seen the vass tex ones but I read they are not 100% waterproof? Any other suggestions.

Castle clothing fortex flex 220 jacket and 920 trousers both 100% waterproof and under £50
For both the jacket and trousers . I use them both for work and fishing and can't fault them

Highly recommend tribord sailing waterproofs from decathlon. Use for work and are best I've used.

Korda Drykore for me. Never let me down and wear mind over the Snugpak bib and brace and jacket.

Have you ever worn these out of curiosity ? they look like they would be fully waterproof unlike most other things available but looking at them dont look like they would be breathable really ?
Maybe ok for fishing / milling about but presumably wouldnt want to go for a walk with these on ?
Only ask as I am a dog walker and always on the lookout for waterproofs that actually work !!

Just buy a British army goretex jacket. They cost about £30 on ebay. There's absolutely no reason to spend more for a hobby where the main activity is sitting/standing around. Even if it only lasts a year, it has cost you just over 8 pence a day to own.
Also, the entire concept of breathability is a bit of a con anyway. As soon as the outer layer is saturated, the "breathability" will become almost non-existent. If you're bothered about breathability then buy a Paramo and prepared to get wet but remain warm. However, buying a Paramo for low intensity activities such as carp fishing or dog walking is pointless as you will not be working hard enough to properly make use of the mechanics of the jacket.

Got to agree,
When my old jacket became less waterproof than a PVA bag I invested in a lightweight Goretex army jacket for around £35 and it was brand new, unbelievable value!
Bought it big so I can wear my old buffalo smock or a couple of fleeces underneath in the colder months, it spot on, rolls up small enough to go inside my bag and does exactly what it was designed to do!
Keeps me dry, the undergarments keep me warm!
If my ageing ESP salopettes ever give up the ghost I'll be getting a lightweight Goretex set from the same place.

Must admit I'd never considered the Flexothane range of waterproofs. Seen lots of farmers with them and as a group farmers are not known for throwing there very hard earned cash about for something crap.
If they are as good as they claim the the prices are very low.
Think I may buy a pair of the trousers as at that price if they don't meet expectations then it's not a big deal. If they are as good as claimed I'll follow with a jacket.

In my spare time I help the in-laws on the farm and we use the flexothane gear it's one down fall is it's not as breathable as your led to believe, it is waterproof and wind proof and well made the material has a slight stretch to it too. Sizing wise I'm a 36 waist and a large top and large pants and large jacket fit me, If you were wanting to put them over a thicker under or mid layer I would size up as with a hoodie on my jacket can be a bit snug at times and probably not great to try and cast out in.
There is a company on Amazon that sell copies of the flexothane gear and I use the bib and brace they make as I prefer the fit when I'm going to be knee deep in wet sheep for the day as I'm not forever pulling my pants back up. And they last just as well if not longer than the flexothane have in the past.

I once had a PU coated jacket but it was cheap and didn't last long but for fishing it was great, 100% waterproof and could be shaken off, and that's the problem with a lot of materials, for me, it soaks the water in, takes ages to dry and is not ideal in a tent, brilliant at contributing to condensation!
Said it before, look at trawler men, PVC with wool undergarments. For fishing, sat around, I can't see a problem with this gear other than its lack of breathability, wet from the inside but let's face it, how many people sit out in the rain all day, it's out for a fish, a recast or to bait up really and coat off

Happy with my army Goretex but it's the drying off of it which is the bugbear. I was hoping the Flexothane would wipe off on the outside easily.
However I have been warned by an outdoors working man that they aren't as breathable as stated and do have their own drawbacks.
Hmmmm.......maybe stick with what I have.
