Looking at some new reels.... For my budget it's between shimano power aero 14000 xt or daiwa 19 basia 45 scw!!! Roughly the same price... Or am I overlooking something else?

Do not bother with that basia,look at the all black model with the wooden handle.I have had the 19,20 mag sealed and the all black version,that is the best one imo

I loved the 20 for the cosmetics but it just didn't feel very robust to me at all,the basia 45 sld qd feels stronger.That might just be me,I tried the 20 as I loved my mag sealed casizms but the 20 didn't live upto my hopes and expectations unfortunately

If I was in the market for a set of new reels, I'd be considering the Penn Affinity ones. I don't change reels very often and want them to last, the Penn's have a good reputation for reliability.

I've had the older power areos since they come out. About five years ago. Solid, light, still smooth, fantastic line lay.

A post above mentions the Okuma Obsidian. I have recently picked up a pair of these and can honestly say they are excellent. Line comes off them very well as since it has a slow oscillation which gives good line lay.
Playing a fish is fantastic, the drag initiates very smoothly on lunges, regardless of the tension set.
When at the end of a "pump stroke" and you are winding down under tension, there is no stiffness felt in the rotation of the handle.
They are incredibly light for the size as well
I am very happy with them and feel i would need to spend a HELL of a lot more than 170 pounds to see an improvement.
According to a stockist who recently visited the Okuma headquarters, the comparative reel by Shimano (aerolex i think) cost 640 pounds at the time of release.

Agreed I think okuma's one mistake is they've sold them too cheap.
And I don't think they've ever released a bad reel..
