I was having a discussion with a mate about claiming a fish on other people's rods. As a few months ago my brother had to pop home for about 2 hours or so. I looked after his rod's while he was away. If I hadn't of looked after them he would of had to pack his stuff away load it back in the car. Then go and do his stuff. Then come back the lake and set back up and possibly not get back in same swim. Anyway I had a half decent fish on his rods. Now in the past my brother has looked after my rods and claimed fish on them. So can I claim the fish I had on his rods ? Are mate recons I can't as I didn't cast the rod out and so on. What's your guys thorts

Your brother should be greatful you saved his spot and karma rewarded you for your effort and consideration to rod sit. It is what it is no league table positions or sponsorship deals were effected enjoy the experience 😉

It was a mate saying that I couldn't claim a fish. As I didn't cast the bit out and make the rig and so on. But the way I look at it is my brother would have had to pack up if I hadn't of looked after his rods. So there wouldn't of been a fish caught on the rods at that time as he or me wouldn't of been fishing

Many years ago I was with a friend in his swim when he wanted to go to the local shop to get a Sunday paper. This was obviously early on a Sunday morning. My friend asked the bailiff if he would watch his rods which had been out all night, to save him reeling in. My friend had just got out of the car park when one of his rods rattled off. Bailiff landed and claimed a 32lb mirror as his fish. My friend got back about 5 minutes after the fish was landed. Totally gutted as it was one of the bigger target fish he was after. Moral of the story. Don't leave your rods at bite time.

I don't see why you would even want to claim a fish on someone elses rods, they are the ones that picked the swim, found the spots, baited up, cast out and all the hard stuff, getting the fish in is the easy part if you're fortunate enough to get a bit. Same thing happened to me when I was younger, looking after my dads rods while he went to the shops and had a 34lb common on his rod, didn't even cross my mind to claim the fish as 'my fish', in fact I still say to this day its his fish but we just chalked it up as no ones and released it. If I had to look after someones rods for a bit nowadays I just tell them to wind them in and I'll stay in the swim, more to make sure their stuff is ok.

In the past he has looked after my rods for me. And had fish on them. And has claimed them. Didn't bother me as I was not there to catch the fish. And if I was I may of lost the fish. I think its just one of those things.

Another time I was fishing with my brother. It was early in the morning and he reeled in to re-cast and got snagged up. Lost all his tackle following pulling for a break. Totally demoralised he couldn't be bothered to re-tackle. I. Put a new rig on for him, rebaited for him and told him exactly where to cast. He put it exactly where I told him first cast. Half hour later he had a run and landed a 29lb 15oz mirror. He said we'll call it 30lbs I said no way. You're not getting a 30 when I did all the hard work. Love my brother.

The only time it has occured happened to be worst case scenario. My old man only popped to the shops to get some milk and it rattled off. 33 on the nose. Would have been a PB for me at the time too, despite having a few here and abroad between 30 and 32. The details would not matter if it wasn't for the fact it would have been my old mans first 30. I was absolutely gutted for him. I should have slipped it back, but opted to sack it as I think he would have at least wanted to see the fruits of his labour despite not being the one to reel it in. We took photos, but I deleted them as it just didn't feel right.

When I go fishing with my mate we normally take turns on the rods if we are doubled up or in 2 swims next to each other. Few times when one of us has had to go to the toilet or whatever the rods have gone but we've never claimed the other persons fish. If I've got the fish in the net when my mate comes back he has the photo and vica versa. The way we look at it is the person who's found the spot, baited up, cast out etc has done the donkey work so they get the credit. The other person at least gets the fun of the fight
End of the day it's not a competition so we both just enjoy the moment of a fish on the bank

I would say fish caught on other peoples rods can be claimed by neither. Reeling it in is the easy bit it's the stuff that comes before that really matters. I was busting for the loo last year and passed a mate my reciver as I had fish over me ran to the loo and came back to a mid 30 in the net we had a laugh we had a picture together with it for a laugh and slipped her back. I don't count the fish but had a picture for the memories. Could be worse a bloke I knew popped to the loo and a bloke next door landed a 50+ common 😳. Moral of the story is reel them in!!😂

I take my mrs up the cut .. set the float rod up and plumb the depth . After that it's down to her and all her fish .
