I have seen the damage they do ...its not pretty..
I have caught two beaver rewilders on our private land ,searching for suitable areas to let them go..its the proposed licensing to remove the dams which will cause problems,have seen three dams ..
They don't eat fish,however the environmental damage and eco babble baggage and media lies and spin is untrue,they do not benefit the countryside..ask the Scottish river keepers,.
Rewilders are trying to play god ,yet again in a time zone different in everyway from years ago..same individuals who ruined the lakes and rivers are involved,known about this for a long time..

There were 2 people on the radio a while back. One a scottish beaver supporter explaining what a nightmare it had been and how they were overpopulated now and an issue.
And someone from the cotswolds or somehwere who wanted to re wild them.... That wanted to take some of the excess beavers from scotland. Absolutely nuts.
Funnily though, there was a huge story when beavers were spotted on the river Otter, and once it hit the news they said they had just been released.... They had been there decades.

From what I have learnt so far is when they scat ,it looks like sawdust and it mainly defecates in the water so unlike lutra lutra spraint,which are easily found on prominent points of the apex preds area,Beaver is harder to find,scat wise..
However,the trail of chewed,and damaged bankside vegetation was easy to spot ,plus the dams it made..
They people I spoke to say it escaped,however I am now led to believe two ,a mating pair were released on the Devon,Cornwall border on purpose..
Tamar catchment area,ring any bells,same source as the otter ,lettings go ...the other main source,despite their procrastination,have ceased trading and the remaining otters dissipated to other captive places..

They would be fun to have in a lake you fish.
I recall being on exercise in Canada in the 80's near a lake and all you could hear on a night was Beavers smacking the water with their tails and its one hell of a splash you hear, Sounds like someone chucking a kitchen sink full of concrete into pond. They do it as a danger signal to others and as a warning to any other Beavers encroaching into there territory.
You would not get any sleep all night as you would think a 50+ has just leapt in pond every now and then.

The otter fences will keep the fish in but they may be beyond casting range

We have them in nearly all our NC waters.
At night, they will slap their tails..hard. Think it's to show annoyance I am there with them😁
Agree you would not confuse that with a carp, Toronto, it's a great deal louder!
