As you may be aware I have recently joined the Facebook revolution.
I'm embarrassed to say that after many years of carp angling a gapping hole in my knowledge has become apparent.
I have for many years thought that carp were either commons, mirrors, ghosties, leathers or a mix of these.
I'm now aware that there is also strain called a “banger” with what appears to be a sub division called a “scaley banger”
So I wonder if you can clear this up for me. Can a fish be scaley but not a banger? How many scales does a fish need before it transitions from an ordinary banger to a scaley banger? Is there a size limitation to bangers? Some I've seen seem little more than a c4 stocky.
For a newbie like me this is all very confusing. I had a huge row with my wife last night. I got in from work and she said we had bangers and mash for tea. Disgusting. Catch and release I told her. Ffs.

I think the term maybe used for how to deal with an ugly fish? you put a firework up its arse and blow it away

I was gonna go tonight but I've knocked it on the head until I can get this sorted out. I'm really worried that if I catch one and ask somebody to do the pics for me. What if I refer to it as a mirror, when it's actually a banger? Or worse still I call it a banger when it should be a scaley banger. I'm not sure I can live with that kind of shame.
Safest bet is not to go I think.

I think banger may be the modern version of kipper, apparently unit can also be used.
If anyone used any of these terms to my face I think I would need to walk away quickly whilst putting a face mask on to cover my laughter.

Oh god this is getting even more confusing. Are you saying that I could actually also catch a scaley unit? How on earth do I tell the difference? Can you have a banging unit?

Believe it or not a few years ago there was a type of carp that was referred to as 'a cheese'??!
But I never saw anybody define what sort of cheese it was, and a quick Google search says there are some 1800 types of cheese in the world!
I'm quite old fashioned, it's either a nice carp or it's not where I come from, so its all very, very confusing for me too.

Just go, you'll never catch a banger, scalley banger unit anyway because you don't have the munga to spod the granny out of it.

You should be ok so long as you avoid the 'absolute banger' which is invariably a very **** attempt at music played loudly from the 'in car entertainment system' of an audi a3 ....
