We´re all no strangers to pub chucking, and definately do it quite often, atleast i do. I must say i´m highly skilled at strategically placing/pinpointing pub chucks Pub chucking is a skill of it´s own, and has definately landed afew PBs over the years.

The carp angler is quite pedantic, if you think of it. Everything has to be spot on, to the T, finding that dustbin lid clean spot in the midst of thick weed, or afew inches either side of a gravel/silty boundary. There´s a fine line between "true skill" and plain luck on the day.

Ever lob a rod to a margin spot, but doesn´t actually land on that "sweet spot", but you let it rest anyway ... 10mins later, it´s a new PB. Skill or liuck ? You spend 30mins finding that perfect spot, putting all your skills to the test ... feature finding/marker work/spombing/rig placement etc, spot on. Sit there for hours watching your baited spot fizz up, but not a sniff. A fish jumps 50ft to the left, so you bung a choddy as close as your can, and 5mins later new PB You have no idea where/what your hookbait has landed on, or if that fish was infact feeding on that spot, but you "take a chance" anyway. Skill or pub chuck ?

How many of you have actually admitted that one of your red letter sessions, was infact down to luck, with a minor bit of skill involved.

Remember Nashy talking about his fishing down in Dorset, trying to bag a 50lb common (and this was back in the day, 50lb fish were like rocking horse shxt). He said that the fish would often come to far less experienced anglers, that weren't fishing with precision....

My mate is brilliant at the pub chuck. He's a tight fecker so single chods is pretty much the only way he used to fish. Never used to use marker/lead or spod. As long as he got a half decent drop he was happy

Has done well over the years just using this tactic, he's started baiting up a bit now when he's happy with the drop but still don't use a marker/lead

yes. luck, or rather chance, that it really doesn't matter that much what you do if they are feeding in front of you. This plays a big part in my angling.

given a rare 2 or 3-day session I will make more effort. but often I'm getting to the lake at 4 pm and packing up at 10 am the next day. from previous catches, I know what works at my club. but its on sight only.

another water nearby that I fish is deep silt. thick black stinking silt. my best session there was on stiff IQ straight through to a semi-fixed lead. only done as I had turned up late and was rigged for another lake.

Had some nice fish using the strategic pub chuck over the years .
If they want it they have to pick it up 👍

Interesting. The lake in question was tiny and full of weed. with an island in the middle. You could quite literally swing a bait to anywhere in the lake. Don't think accuracy was a problem for anyone. Fished it in 70s when I was 16. Turn up with a loaf, pay a bob or two to the quarry company and fish.
It then became part of a holiday camp and I think it was a lady fishing flake that first made it into the news with "Herman". I know nothing about the history of the fish but a big common had been caught a couple of times well before this. Sadly it was found dead and ended up stuffed in a local tackle shop, now closed.

Over the years, pub chucks have actually landed me more fish, than pinpoint detail. Before, even if it would take me 6-7 casts to get it spot on, i´d get everything 100%, or sit there doubting myself, fiddling in me chair, not actually enjoying the session

Nowadays, i´m absolutely loving every blank session I rarely weigh or take any pics, and if i do, it´s a pic on the mat

My first trip to France many years ago, we arrived later than planned, by the time we had eaten dinner, it was getting dark so the first night I fished one rod, small mesh pva bag of boilies and it was just pub chucked in front of me, 20 mins later 59lb common 😁😁 biggest in the lake and new PB 😁😁

Ive done it in France.... the swim kicked off on first night big time and carried on through the day and into the next night. Id been awake since the Friday morning and by Sunday night was dead on my feet. Had one and lost it just after dark.... rather then retire it for the night I just hit it back out and didn't even feel is down.

Caught on my other two rods through out the night and didn't put them back, once I surfaced in the morning the owner brought some brekkie rolls around and whilst updating him on the nights action said rod went off... landed a upper 40 which he recognised and asked where I had it from as didn't really come out on that side of the lake.... safe to say it wasn't the spot I pointed too

I wonder how many actually believe in the "carp gods", and have certain rituals they secretly perform Libations are usually my way of thanking the lake, during every session.

Walked Astbury a couple of times in the summer had a chat with a couple of the locals. Several following shamanism in the hope of catching clearly.

I did an awful lot of French pay lakes that are heavily fished for a fair few years and I always when I arrived stood looking at the swim then with a couple of baits in my hand I just casually chucked them
.........just like you would when you were changing a hook bait to recast ! then at night before turning in I would put a rod on that spot
I have lost count of the times that rod has roared off and often produced the biggest fish

Didn't the actual term originate from the art of getting someone to look after your rods, you pop off to the pub down the road to get merry on sherry, to then come back and perform a "that'll do *burp*" at around 11pm?
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.
