Been doing allot of thinking,

My new syndicate this year is mostly all rowing boat work at long range, most people in this situation head straight for the braid but it got me thinking, normally wouldn't use Fluro at range because it cast like a bag of s*** however if I will be boating it out this won't be an issue.

The benefits over braid is the fact it's less visible but does still have some give in it when playing fish however it's got far less stretch than your normal monos but more than braid.

Has anyone ever had any experience doing this or am I just wasting my time and should go straight to the braid.

Is the increase in stretch using the Fluro ultimately going to cause me issues with bite indication?

Looks forward to hearing your thoughts

Why not braid with a fluro leader best of both worlds. Great indication at range and a leader will give you concealment your rig end with some putty along it. Most of my fishing the last few seasons has been done around 130. Only a shallow venue but it's surprising even with bowstring tight lines how far they can move in a short space of time. you will be bowstring tight if fishing at range anyway. When the wind picks up and sediment and weed hang off the line it will stand out no matter what it is. Also the leader will give you a little bit of a cushion under the tip. If your boating out and you have the option to use softer rods (no weed snags etc) I would consider using them. If not just take it easy on the braid especially with higher TC rods.

Never fished fluoro at long range. I'm wondering about indication. 150/200 yds or more of fluoro sunk hard on the bottom and maybe bedded in weed and silt is going to take a lot of shifting, it's heavy stuff.

Unfortunately no leaders allowed as this would have been my go to set up

Yeah I'm not sure, if it's fished right will it be sunk down in all that? It's not like I'll be fishing slack lines at that range, would it be heavier than a dedicated sinking braid once it's taken water on?

What is the lake bed like? If there are bars or weed then I would avoid flouro or sinking braid.

If it's clear then flouro should be fine. It will take some effort to lift from the lakebed but will provide great indication and fish hooking capability. Especially if you can use a running lead.

I find that to get the benefit from fluro it needs to Be fished slack. When it's midwater and the sun is on it is actually really visible. I can see no benefit to using it at range at all.

Yes it's weedy however please bare in mind I don't want to fish it at range for its sinking properties that normally attract people to it. My thoughts were it's very low stretch and highly abrasion resistant but isn't as harsh to play fish on or expensive as braid

No experience of fishing fluoro at long range. Interested to know why you think it would provide great indication. Genuine thirst for knowledge here.

Fluoro is great for using at range. The bite indication is far better than mono, but obviously not as good as braid. As someone else mentioned already, if there are gravel bars or a ton of weed, fluoro at long range is not the one.

Your biggest problem is how the fluoro behaves on the spools whilst boating your rigs out. It's a bit springy on the spools, and consequently a bit more of a problem than mono/braid in the boat. Make sure you regularly untwist it between sessions, and you will be fine. If you are using an outboard it's far easier, as you can keep a finger on the spool to control the springy fluoro.

There is probably nothing worse in the world than boating your third rod of three, out 400+ yards... Then a large birds nest spills off of the spool 50 yards short of your spot... This is quite common with fluoro whilst boating out rigs unfortunately... More so if you do not keep removing any twist which builds up. If you have access to a Minn Kota or similar it will make using fluoro at range far easier than actually rowing.

I've used it extensively at 500+ yards without an engine, you just need to ensure you keep the twist on the spools to a minimum. With practice, it's possible to put three rods out at that range, but only go out in the boat just the once.

straight to braid boated out with a nice wet spool.
Boating flouro over 100 yards had me tearing my hair out, particularly at night.

Really am puzzled. Understand fluoro has less stretch than mono but it still has significant stretch. Fluoro fished slack at ranges that need a boat, how is indication great? How is there any indication until the fish has picked up yards of line. With that much fluoro out you'd need half bricks as bobbins to fish tight lines or am I missing something.
Are you sure?
