Is Nikwax suitable to waterproof my Fortis SJ6 .If not can you recommend anything.

I wouldn't put anything on it as such, you can get that stuff you wash clothes in that may increase the water repellancy (Grangers Wash + Repair) but not sure as it is not supposed to be actually waterproof

IMHO if you waterproof the outside the inside won't breathe and then sweat and indirectly cold will build up. I use a goretex jacket over the top of my Snugpak but have used cheap plastic Kagol type jackets as well. It may appear as an inconvenience but worth the extra shell outside for the warmth of a Snugpak 😀

Is the torrent still as warm as the sj6?

I own a sj3 and a sj9 one is a spring summer jacket the other the depth of winter both are designed to keep you warm
The torrent is a lightweight waterproof jacket/trousers designed to be worn over the top and specifically for waterproof purposes

Nikwax is used for proofing waterproof gear mate. While it will restore any water repellent properties it cant make none waterproof gear waterproof

I see, I thought it was just a thin waterproof jacket, wonder if it's actually as warm as an SJ6 or 9 though in reality?

I have had the torrent jacket for over a year now, fished a lot in heavy rain when i have been lure fishing, and have done a few days in the cold being static and never felt cold in the jacket, so for my own personal view, i would be totally mad to buy a non water proof jacket, Snugpak have a even more waterproof torrent jack, higher rating

Sounds good, the only thing that would stop me getting one for static bivvy fishing is, if I get soaked I like to be able to take off the wet outer layer and be left with the SJ to then sit in rather than sit on the bedchair in a soaking wet coat
