Hi all
I'm looking for some camera suggestions.
I have a budget of about £6-800
I need to think of how to aptly keep it out of the rain on occasions,
Any suggestions and pointers would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea about them.
I've been looking at the D5600 and the A7ii which I've read is very outdated
Not looking to read arguments or anyone point scoring about who's taken the most pictures, just need some help from fellow anglers due to joining a new syndicate and wanting to escape using my S23 ULTRA

Out of 2 suggested camera's i would choose the D5600 because the flip screen. It's make it more easy to make the pictures when you are alone.
Would advise you to buy the Nikon 35mm 1.8. With this setup you will be capable to make nice fish photo's. I combine this lens with a D7200, in the past with D3200. D5600 with the 35mm lens stay within budget.

Sony A7C has a flip screen; my daughter is a pro photographer and uses one (with a plethora of lenses) on location pretty much exclusively . . .mainly action shots but also portraits . .
Might be a bit over budget with lenses etc!
I personally use a Panasonic Lumix G5 - flip screen / integrated intervalometer / compact / decent lens / bluetooth (images direct to phone for bragging etc) Decent fishing camera for self takes without the weight / bulk

A7C has flip screen indeed but is not the camera as the suggested A7ii, and more as twice the price so reach out the budget

I bought a Nikon Z50 a few months ago. Although at your top end of the budget it's an amazing piece of kit

Thanks everyone who's commented soo far, I'm not exclusively tied to the 2 of them cameras, I will have a look at the ones mentioned too, I have some wiggle room with my budget but with it being my first camera I don't want to go too silly

I can recommend the Nikon... I shot with a d5200 and a d5500 for years before moving to full frame. They were all fantastic when paired with the 35mm f1.8 and the flip screen is something I miss not having.
I now use a d750 and a 50mm. You could probably pick that up second hand for your budget if you shop around. Look at Wex and MPB for decent used gear with warranty and condition ratings.

Thank you, Do you find much difference in the quality? The screen is also what drew me to the d5600
I've been looking at the Canon Eos RP too, I'll be making a decision by tonight hopefully but liking the reviews on the d5600

Sorry to hijack a bit but I assume if the OP gets the Nikon d5600 same will apply. I've just got the d5300 with 35mm 1.8 lens and have moved to that from the Sony a5000. What (easy) settings would you recommend for fishing pics?

The RP is decent mate, it's what I use. Lenses are generally v pricey, but they do a cheap 50 f1.8 which is spot on for catch pics.

Not noticeably no. Marginally sharper, cleaner and a nicer depth of field, but nothing that would show up glaringly. I only felt the need to upgrade as I do a fair bit of photography outside of fishing.
Upgrading a camera body will generally give you more features rather than breathtakingly better shots. Most of those features aren't going to be important for a fishing camera.
As an example, you're looking at improvements in fps, buffer, AF and low light capability... these can be crucial for demanding genres of photography, (I do quite a bit of wildlife), but your typical trophy shot isn't asking much.
You'll see more improvement in the actual end product if you spend money on the glass.
Regarding settings - it's hard to recommend something basic as every scenario is different, but generally -
Shutter speed: keep at a minimum of 1/100 to negate any chance of motion blur/camera shake.
Aperture: I usually shoot at anywhere between f2.8 & f3.5, but you need to hold the fish close to your body to keep everything in focus. F4 or f5.6 would leave more room for error.
ISO - Keep it as low as possible to achieve the exposure you're after.
The screen is a real bonus on the d5600 and paired with the built in intervalometer, it makes self takes a doddle.

Does the camera Re focus after every shot, with the timer?
Also with the flash for night pictures?
I was going to get an eos r6 but I don't think it focuses with the interval timer. The only solution might be to use f8 or larger

Get an intervalometer for a tenner mate. Makes any camera refocus between shots.

Thanks Yonny! I ended up buying the RP, hadn't seen your message until now, I did see you recommend the 50mm the other day, I got the Ef 50mm 1.8 with it, I'll be looking for a better lens in the future when I get used to it

Thank you mate, that information will set me a long way, I appreciate you going into such depth and explaining it for me, I'll give it a whirl and hopefully after the winter has passed I'll have some trophy shots to share
