Looking for advice please....
I have a Rod, Free Spirit Floater rod and the second biggest 25mm ceramic ring has cracked.
I can buy a brand new Fuji S-lite 25mm ring for a Fiver !!! but how do I safely put the new ceramic ring in the old metal ring on the Rod, without re-whipping the new ring on the rod ??
I have a dermal drill for fine work and I am fairly skilled in doing things. I was told that the 30-12 s-lite rings are put in thermally.
So what does this mean and is anyone able to tell me a process to replace the new ceramic other than re-whipping it??

It would always be better to replace/rewhip a new guide on but it can be done and its a bit awkward, i had to do emergency repairs on the bank to a couple of rods years ago with s lites when the liners popped out in the quiver i vowed i would never use that type of guide again!
I gently heated the outside of the guide and gently teased the liner back in by combination of my fingers and pair of pliars and secured with superglue, as a temp repair they lasted until i got rid of the rods.

If I remember correctly it was the Tackle Box who supplied me with an inner a while back. Give them a bell or msg.😉

I would never buy a rod with slight guids. They realy are the worst.

You could try putting the ceramic inner in the freezer for a couple of hours
I would imagine this is how they fit them originally as warming the outer up would alter its tensile strength and would distort the roundness

I can imagine the reason why it fell out was to do with the guide being damaged and becoming slightly distorted in shape, putting it back in sounds like a temporary solution which how long it will last is like guessing the length of a piece of string...

Poster states its cracked not fallen out. You really do need to change the guide dont faff around trying to put an inner in.

Are there bits missing off the ceramic or is it still complete and how bothered are you about aesthetics?
Reason I'm asking is that you could use something like jb weld to not only hold it in place but repair the crack. I'd imagine it'd be quite easy to get a tidy finish if you have a dremel.
Naturally replacing is the best option.

Ceramic ring has fallen out as it's cracked to the point of being in 3 pieces.
I think it happened due to vibrations of being stored in a rod tube. There is no damage to the rod or rod ring itself and has not been squashed or hit on the ring metal. It's simply just gone dry in the ring as it's two years old. Either the rod tube has been banged or fallen over and that has made the ring crack. It's a small ring so would never touch the inside of the rod tube to hit the inside either.
Most tackle shops check their rods when they come in from Fishing brands for this. Even new rods get rings that have been damaged whilst be couriered, even if extremely well packaged.
Rings are very fragile. LOL So think it's just one of those things.
The reason I asked about replacing it myself is that there is not one single Rod builder near me and every good Rod builder needs me to post the rod top section which, as everyone knows is very expensive to a normal person ! £30+ Royal Mail and that's without paying the Rod builder to fix it and post it back.
Therefore it is just uneconomical to send it off to get it repaired. I could buy a brand new spare rod top section and this will be my last resort at £60 from Free spirit.
Was just asking in case someone had a niffty way or swapping over the ceramic insert without having to whip a new ring on or buy a new top section ?!!!

It's actually a lot easier than you think to replace & I have been doing my own & fitting line clips etc for the last few years.
youtube is your friend on the whipping & do a search on using clear gorilla glue instead of epoxy for the coating / varnish. I have had no issues with using it on my rods & unless you look really closely, you can't tell the difference when it's on the rests.
It's actually a lot easier than you think to replace & I have been doing my own & fitting line clips etc for the last few years.

Personally then I'd do what JamieNow says and try whipping on a new guide yourself, got to be worth it for the cost of materials just to have a play about, if you can be bothered or have the time. If you're happy with the result you'll be set for any future issues.

A lot of tip eyes are not whipped on and the whipping just butts up to it on the blank.
Whenever I have replaced a tip eye, I have just heated it up with a lighter to melt the glue whilst gently pulling until the tip ring pulls off. Measure the size of it and buy a new one, then just hot glue it in place and usually no need to do any whipping.
If I cannot be bothered, the tackleshop will do it for me there and then.

it's a great channel with some really good tips & tricks. there is a lot of content but don't get put off - a lot of it is very specialised with fancy wraps etc & there earlier videos cover the basics.

Pop the insert in the freezer for a couple of hours and heat up the outer ring with a lighter (jet lighters are good for this).
Then quickly pop the ceramic ring into the outer ring before the whole lot gets back to ambient temperatures.
It is a bit fiddly, but should hold firmly after that.
You don't have to heat up the outer ring too much to do this, just enough to expand it slightly.
I have done this a few times with 50mm rings, which fell out in the rod bag.

Sorry for coming to this old post but my butt eye has warped slightly and is not a good circle anymore. I tried just forcing a ceramic in but it snapped but would the heating up work to do get the ceramic in and make the eye a circle again?

did the ceramic insert snap of the metal eye? if the ceramic has broken then you need to replace the whole thing as it can damage the line
tbh honest even if the ring has broken, it isn't going to grip the ceramic anywhere near as effectively as it was before & will most likely pop back out again in the not too distant future.

Ceramic broke when I went to put it in. Rod eye just warped in shape. I would be buying a new ceramic before I try again not using the same snapped done

If the ring frame is distorted/warped I can't see you being able to fit a new insert, and if you managed it I wouldn't expect it to stay in for long. I would just buy a new ring and whip it on. If you don't feel confident fitting it yourself most tackle shops can do it, or at least point you to someone who can.
