Hi I'm looking at getting some alarms I'm set on the ECU(Edward custom upgrades) been recommended by a mate,and I'd like to just confirm what he's said if they are any good.

They are good, but best alarms ever is a bit of a stretch. I have a set of the R plus. The way you have to cycle through the settings is annoying, you have to keep pressing the volume so it gets louder and louder, untill you accidently go too far and have to start over. When you're trying to turn down the alarm is a pain.

The same with sensitivity. Having to cycle though all the settings to turn the sensitivity back up is seriously annoying and a very poor design choice. Not sure if that's any different on newer versions of them?

I have had a set since January and love mine, they are great for the money plus they look cool, which is a bonus.

Found the reception for receiver not great.

I've been on the super plus and again fantastic alarms so far. Receiver range is good for 100m plus easily.

Mine is the same, I've had loads of liners that haven't picked up on the receiver. Maybe a a few more beeps would have woken it up, but it left me paranoid enough that I can never have the heads on silent.

Ah OK, he never said range though, said reception isn't great. I've fished a few swims where you're only a stones throw from the rods, but they aren't in line of site. You need that long range ability of the receiver so that it will still work at close range but with obstacles. I've found the ECU reviewer not to be that great in those circumstances
Certainly not the worst though.

So if I'm in a tight swim and my rods are in water and I have to get the chest waders on will there be a problem with reception

Fair enough, I took that is in the range wasn't great. Sounds like in reality the receiver isn't really fit for purpose then.

I found the same when I had the Mk 1 compacts, my rods were on sticks in the water then bivvied up on the bank 10 yards away at best on quite a few occasions the alarm head would go off but the receiver not a beep until it would go into a melt down run, gave me the same thing no confidence then in having the heads on silent or very low especially at night when in the land of nod.
I actually swapped my Mk1 compacts with a mate who bought the Mk1 R-Plus compacts he didn't like all the buttons on them bit too technical for him as he put it, I explained the problem with the receiver but he wasn't overly fussed as he mostly fished days only and the rods were on the bank right next to him, the Mk1 R-Plus receiver is definitely better.

Would that reciever work with the mark 1 then
,I mean I only fish the lake where I have to wade out a few yards maybe 4/5 times a year other than that I'm on a canal or maybe a lake where I don't have to get in water

I've got a set of the MK1 super + Compacts and used them without issue from receiving signal when a fair way up a bank, it's the receiver with a single arial.
When they 1st came out I had the original MK1 compacts that have a receiver box with almost no arial and the reception was a bit sketchy if your rods were down a bank and you were at the top, in the end got shot.
Love the newer MK1 super + Compacts, that said I also love my ATTs.

What type of batteries do they take as well

They take 9v , I'm still running the standard batteries they come with. 3 months roughly.

But have been told to go for 9v lithium rechargeable after they die.

Every version will be called the Mk 1, and he will find other ways to differentiate the models (I am sure I read or heard him say in the past). I seriously considered these a few years ago and was recommended to go for the plus model (or ideally the bug eye but they are quite rare), I eventually settled on ATTs (mainly price driven at the time) but will almost certainly get a set when I next want to change as I know a few people who have them and rate them very highly

I had delks and think there still the best alarm for most situations. 2 situations I hate them in rain and when fishing on wooden staging.

Ecu's eliminate them 2 and are as good.

Why buy lithiums they will bring no benefit other the empty your wallet faster ?
Yeah you can get lithium manganese which have up to 5x capacity but they can't be recharged, the rechargeable variants have less capacity, plus the cost of a charger...spend your money elsewhere imho.

I use non rechargeable Lithium batteries, they last sooooo much longer

No idea why but they like lithiums. Perhaps voltage drop of a regular battery causes them to drain more. I used to go though a set of batteries every 3 trips, the lithiums did a year.

Mine have lithium batteries but standard, do well over a season, but I don't get too many bites 😂😂😂😂

Find yourself some Fox DXRs, the best ever albeit receiver range is limited but you shouldn't be that far away anyway.

Sold my delk d's for ecu super plus compacts and much prefer the ecu's.

The battery and receiver signal issues were only with the 1st generation. The latest ones are spot on.

I think you would change your mind when it's blowing a gale and raining, you need to change the sensitivity, and you're getting piss wet through having to cycle through all the sensitivities, counting the beeps, and you go past the least sensitive so have to start again.

Got the same buzzers. I plan ahead and do it before the rain and wind comes in. Get windy red on you phone and check it regularly. Plan ahead and you've no need to get wet and pissed off pressing buttons on your buzzers

Im glad it works for you, but I don't go fishing to regularly check my phone. I swapped over to an alarm that works much better for me.

I understand. My job is very weather related so I'm always checking weather. I only fish for a few weeks a year so I like to know what's going to happen. Habbit I guess. Like you said what works for you.

Having used them for the best part of 3 years my thoughts. As an alarm they are the best looking imo and the features on them are all easy to use. The large LEDs are really good. I had no issues at all for 2 years but then one just completely packed up mid session and nearly cost me a fish. This was fixed really quickly by Scott so no issues there. But, when your confidence has gone, its gone. Also being a member of a few users groups on FB I did notice a fair few were acting up. I am sure its the same for most higher end feature packed alarms tbh. So its back to ATTs for me. Literally the only alarm i have used that has never let me down, I realise they aren't perfect but as near to 100% reliable as its possible to get.

Maybe not just the early ones my super plus receiver has just flattened a brand new battery between sessions.

Worked fine last time out dead as the proverbial today, for the first time in years going to have to carry spare batteries.

Put a new one in but if it happens again they'll be shifted on after repair & it'll be TLB pluses & an att receiver.

For the money they cost not impressed, lost confidence in them now.
